Jammin Jay Ad Replica Car

Post by mikedealer »

Well i made a roll cage a while ago for this but sold it because i didnt think i could get the parts together to build one, alas a few months later i managed to get all the parts together i needed (thanks cedric (front rims and knockoffs came in), and thanks scr8p i already swapped the tires/noseplate from the A&L car (dont worry though the car is still whole and i have a new noseplate on the way lol))

So i am going to build 6 Cages and paint 6 bodies, and 6 gear cover replicas eventually here. My Base car is done here (going to change some screws etc, and the battery cups are coming from Tower soon. I plan to run one of the cage cars on a beater car, and keep this one perfect, and ebay the rest.

i was going to hold off on posting this till i found my chrome headlights and small AE rear wing, but ill find em eventually lol. thats the only thing i need badly

if anyone has any pictures of this car other than the ad that would be awesome, i know one exists in the useful threads post of that poster, but havent seen any others.

pretty sure it's a small wing. i could've helped you out with one of those, too.

there's a pic of it in this thread, before everyone was added to it.

I can't tell you how many times I've sold stuff thinking I'd never find the rest of the parts. I hate it when that happens.

Have you thought about making the cage from thinner stock? The one in the ad looks a bit skinnier. That would really nail it.

i noticed that, i might try a thinner steel rod as opposed to tubing, harder to bend though, but ill play with it.

any idea what kind of gear cover is on that ad? it looks like a normal team car cover with the ridges but i could be wrong.

I can't tell about the gear cover from your magazine picture, and can't find a larger version on here...

well got the edinger gear cover for this project. decided to build the cage for it tonight. used solid rod, thinner than the 3/16" tubing, forget the size but it is thinner like the ad. bolts to the chassis on the bottom where the battery would go, and then in the back by the motor mount, holds on pretty solid. going to clean it up and get it powder coated white.

then just gotta paint the body and get the decals

Very cool, I dig it! 8) So, are you going to offer the other 5 cages and bodies for sale?

Have you decided what kind of mud you're going to use?

i do plan to sell them.. i made "2 cages" technically last night. 1 is assembled, 1 is in peices but pre-bent, just unwelded. that steel rod (not tubing) is a bitch to work with, i went through 3 dremel quick snap cut off wheels last night, usually 1 is enough.. stuff is a bitch to bend also.

body is cutout already, waiting on stickers, and i need to motivate my lazy ass to unpack my vinyl cutting machine to make some paint masks lol.

havent decided on the mud, probably some good old NY mud will do lol

like i said im going to use a vinyl cutter to custom cut the graphics, the hard part will be designing them, once i make them, ill attempt to do it in multiple peices and use masking tape for the rest... it shouldnt be too bad.

what ill probably do is liqui-mask the whole thing, then apply the vinyl on top of that, and use a xacto knife to cut the edges and pull the excess liqui-mask off. that way no bleeding..

either way should be "fun" lol, and protechs are still available thank god.
