Painted up the body finally, but rushed it. Here it is anyway:
Pretty much stock, except for the 2.2 wheels and Proline Bar Code tires, also added the side rail guard things.

Just got a package with a few of those "Trinidad" wheels, and they seems to be good fits for the Optima. The hex maybe just a tiny bit wide... so the wheel kind of wobbles slightly. It might be the Optima hexes that's a bit too small of course, but I've yet to investigate that further.... They look smoking hot, though..... and gives you a little of that Option House "cookie cutter" wheel feeling (Turbo Optima, Optima Pro, Turbo Optima Mid Special etc), just a bit more modern.

Is it possible those wheels wobble because the inside axle hole is 6mm instead of 5mm? It looks like the hex is correct, 12mm. I've had that issue with the narrow crawler wheels I'm using with my Barney Optima, it was remedied on that car by inserting a 5x14x2mm washer inside the large outer hole, 14mm was a perfect, tight fit for those wheels (Axial Rockster). I'm not sure how big that hole is on those Trinidad wheels...

HPI 88083 - These are 4mm I.D. and are aluminum instead of plastic, stronger...just ream them open to 5mm:

Well I actually drove mine today.

Used the belt drive and this thing is super quiet.

No pictures yet as I haven't actually done the body yet and just used some other wheels I had here as I haven't put the kit ones together yet.

FIrst thing. If you are wondering what motor to get I'll say a 17.5 sensored brushless is just not enough motor in this car. I'd go with a 13.5 minimum or something even faster than that. Thinking about swapping the 3500kv from my old optima into this one and see how that works. It can definitely take way more power than a 17.5.

But so far it's smooth and quiet and I'm pretty damn happy to have added it to the collection.

Can't wait to drive it and the original back to back. Waiting on another RX to get the old car back on the road.

I found the reason for the wobbling "trinidad" wheels. There is not enough thread on the axle to properly fasten the wheel lock nut. Easily fixed by using a washer between the wheel and the nut.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but how does adding a washer increase the amount of axle thread?

I think what he is saying is the hub on the wheel is thin, requiring a washer to make it the proper thickness. The locknut was bottoming out where the threads end

That would be too much thread vs. not enough, I guess.

When you run the nut down all the way it stops shy of the Hex because there is a non-threaded area
He Is saying there are not enough threads on the hex side of the axle, not the end of it

the wheel/hex is too thin and he runs out of thread. adding the washer brings the mounting face up enough for the nut to compress and tighten it all up. took me a couple reads to understand what he meant.

Kyosho 2.2 rear wheels for the Scorpion. They use 12mm hex and bolt right up

It was a misunderstanding. If you don't have enough threads on the axle to fasten the wheels, adding a washer--inside OR outside of the wheel--will only make even less thread available.
