Yes, proper hole size makes all the difference. You can't always go by what a chart says.

I completely agree. Skills and patience. Fantastic build!

Thank you kindly my friends. :D

Goods arrived from the UK this morning, JC Racing B2/3 Wheel set in black. I have to say, these guys are spot on. I ordered them on the 3rd!

I was looking at the roof and it was a bit plain so I broke out the files again and performed surgery, a couple of 3mm slots. Now we're talking!

I've installed the Brian Conklin aluminum alloy outdrives in the Lethal Weapon transmission. Dang, these things are sweet!

Looks great! That top panel is awesome. Those tiny screws are the cat's meow. They almost look like tiny rivets. Great work!!

Okay, for my part, and since you've asked... Obviously this is just one member's opinion. I think the plates look great however, having spent so much time and effort making the welded tube joints look perfect, why would you cover them? I think plate gussets and brackets have their place but, if it were mine, I'd want to show-off the nice tube work. Again, just my opinion. By chance, do you have a 1:1 car in mind that you're trying to replicate?

Doug, thank you for the post. I agree with you, the "gusset plates" do hide the joints I spent a lot of time on. I thought about giving the more shape, a curve of sorts but abandoned the idea.

I'm going to carry on with the rear motor guard!

I totally agree with Doug.
In a form follows function rule of thumb I feel they would be more ornamental.
Just my opinion.

Very nice work! I would love to see some pics of your shop! I wish I had a mini cnc and lathe. Oh, I would have fun with that! :P I enjoy keeping up with your builds!

I really don't have a "shop", I have a few folding tables with an old laptop stuck in the corner. My lathe is in the closet!

Great artists over-come obstacles.
Michelangelo had osteoarthritis, Van Gogh had epilepsy, Beethoven was deaf, Hank Williams had spina bifida occulta, Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles were blind and yet consider what they’d accomplished.

I was tempted to post a pic of my unbelievably messy shop but then I remembered that we're trying to attract visitors not drive 'em away.

Same here man, serious mess on the table! Not going to clean up until I get these nerf bars done. I have a small area cleared out for the chassis, the rest of the 5' table is.... yep, disaster zone!

I'm still using my old Taig Micro Lathe II that I bought just about 30 years ago (still mounted to the particle board it came with). It's totally manual and basic, nothing fancy (no power feed or 4-jaw chuck or anything). If you're patient and take your time, you can make a lot of things on a cheap lathe. I turn aluminum almost exclusively so tools stay sharp a long time.
I battle high blood pressure and I've found that turning metal is can be relaxing - down 7 points this week. :D

Taig rules the world!

I'm with you man, still rocking the original particle board here too. I have the 3-jaw and 4 jaw chucks, ER-16 collets, quick change tool posts, and a lot of tool bits on the quick change tool holders. Still, it's all manual with the help of a dial indicator.I can, and do happen to be able to get 4 matching Stealth trans. spacers when the "mojo's" right.

I'm like Doug. Sometimes I sit at the lathe and get into the zone for 6 hours or so. It's an incredible, zen like moment. I always finish out a session with a great sense of accomplishment. Plus, it does more for my blood pressure. than any magic pill the doc gives me. :D
