rc10t Duratrax conversion

First time on this forum, I found it a few days ago. There is some really cool stuff and some great info to be found. I thought I'd post a couple of photos of a truck that I've had since 1996-ish. It's an Rc10T with a nitro conversion. I believe it is probably a Duratrax conversion since it has the Duratrax head. If anyone out there has any more info on these, please let me know. I have seen some other photos of conversions on another post but haven't really dug up anything specific to my truck here or otherwise.

A friend gave me the truck after buying it from a guy who raced it sometimes across the border in Michigan. It was complete with servos and the conversion was done already. Besides the Duratrax head it sports RPM front arms, Rpm front bumper, MIP ball bearing steering and RPM ball cups. The engine is an O.S. cz. Originally it came without the pullstart, but I just added that recently as well as a new piston and cylinder. It also had a graphite upper plate but when I started to restore the truck I found that the plate was cracked so I machined one out of aluminum. The Losi wheels are original as well as the rear tires, but the front tires are from the Losi GTX (see it in the Losi section) that I picked up just before the 10T. So at least they are period correct. From about 1997 on it sat in my basement when I decided two years ago that I would either sell it or restore it. I chose to restore it, and try to bring it back to the way it was when I got it, maybe with a few upgrades that would have been available at the time. So far it's about 75% complete, and when it is done I plan on running it. Just not too hard.

How would the chain drive work? Mine is a standard ball diff, with a slipper, and clutch bell/spur gear combination...

Thanks for the link to the post!

Yes I believe so. This came up on ebay and I wasn't even aware there was an upgrade. I was the only bidder so I got it for .99 plus 8 to ship so $8.99 I polished it up though. lol

Nice looking truck...I see how the chain drive works. Mine must not be from Duratrax then as it is completely different. What other manufacturers made a conversion kit for the 10T?

OMG! I thougt I was the only person left on the planet who had a Duratrax conversion kit. I've had mine sine the came out. I have no luck finding replacement parts so I took it opon my self to make them. The biggest thing I hated about the truck was the plastic spray bar on the carb. It kept falling off. I replace it with a OS 10A carb. I replaced the plastic gearbox with the aluminum one. Mine are anodized blue. The chain was next to go. I replaced it with stainlesss steel. Stronger. I then had to replace the sprockets. I machined both in steel. The clutch system finally wore out. I replace the clutch nut, clutch drum, pinion gear. I upgraded the clutch to a MIP one. Last I had to replaced the spur gear shaft and spear gear hub. After all that I finnally had to replace the plastic rear suspension mounts. I couldn't find any 0 degree ones so I made my own. I now see them sell for $30. :! In the future I will need to replace the chassis. All the countersink holes have wore out. I plan to make it thicker to solve the problem and stop the flexing.

So ... I think that the Duratrax conversion gets my vote for the most dangerous looking transmission I've ever seen in an R/C car.

Holy cow!

You'd think that they'd come up with some way to keep the chain hidden from prying fingers, toes, animals, etc. I looks like the back end of an ATV / quad.

Sweet conversion, and yes, I'd also like to see pics of the aformentioned custom parts / build ...
