Repro belts

How many of you guys have purchased some of the repro belts and have actually used them on a runner?

I bought a set off eBay from a reputable seller and my front belt is extremely tight. I aksed Reggie about this and he explained that a tight belt was expected. It is creating a huge amount of drag ( I mean pretty excessive). I can do with some but this thing barely turns by hand. It is extremely tight.

The rear belt fits fine but the front is too tight for my taste. I am thinking about buying a new front belt that is maybe one or two teeth bigger. They can easily be found online. I can always adjust the tension. There is absolutely no adjustment in the belt currently on the front of the car.

Any help in this area would definately be apprciated.

Have you tried slotting the motor mount chassis holes so that you can move the mount slightly (around 5mm)forward? You may have to slot the rear bulkhead mounts like the 91/93 for adjustment to the rear belt if the movement of the mount puts too much tension on the rear belt.

I had some front belts & rear belts made and sold the lot.
The front belts were 1 tooth smaller if I remember correctly.
I still had to make a tensioner to take up the slack.
I sold around 40 sets and had one complaint that the front was too tight.
I think he was using it in different model to YZ10/870c which is what I made them for.

the car is supposed to have a tensioner, so if the belt is that tight, it sounds like it might be the wrong one. Some of the YR4 cars had a slightly smaller belt I think due to the touring car wheelbase, so you might have gotten one of those by mistake?

I can't find it right now, but Besty can probably rattle off the tooth count for the front belt, you can count it out and see if you have the right thing.

I believe an HPI belt is really close, 1 tooth off from the original belt that would work.(not sure on bigger or smaller)

I counted the teeth last night and I have a 167 tooth belt, 501mm long. The belt is too tight as said earlier.

I found an HPI belt that is 171 teeth (not sure of the exact tooth count), 6MM longer than the one I have.

I went ahead and ordered it and I should be good to go. I have the factory tensioner for the car so it will definately be needed for the new belt.

I appreciate the help and I will let you guys know what the outcome is.

I think the factory correct belt is either 169 or 170 tooth, 167 sounds like the touring car belt.

I've just counted

ZC 651 870c and works front belt 169 tooth

ZC 652 later YZ10 and Pavidis front belt 170 tooth

ZC 656 all models is 64 tooth

I've have found a supplier that seems to offer a 65 tooth and 170 and 167, but not a 64 or 170

Well that two teeth I am missing must be the culprit. The belt I ordered is not the 510mm but a 507mm long belt. I should be just fine with the new belt. We will see.

Thanks for the help

Well the HPI belt is a tad too long :x

The only possible way to tighten without the two sides touching would be to place a tensioner near the front pulley which will be in the way of the steering. I am off to find another 3mm belt between 501mm long and 507mm long. I think there is a 504mm long belt out there.

Wasting money is not cool.....

Well I have sourced a 504mm long belt that should be perfect. Of course it is from China and the websites are complete garbage. I sen the guys an email stating I needed to purchase a belt so we will see.

On a side note i found a place offering the 504mm long belts but they are currently on a waiting list.
