The Kyoshos in the attic

Post by Wahrsuul »

This is part of my Kyosho's, I'm, putting the Optimas in their own thread since they seem to be a topic of their own around here.

Here's my Kyosho Blizzard. This thing was great in the snow, but not as much fun in the dirt. I bought the LeMans AP29BB motors as an upgrade, but since they were a different size that the originals, and I didn't have the tools at the time to re-do the mounts, they never got put in.

Here is my Slingshot. I got the impression these weren't originally released in Japan, as the instruction manual looked photocopied. But as usual, the manual as easy enough to follow without words, and it went together without a hitch. It's never had a body - I messed up the one I had using liquid mask and the wrong kind of paint - and I think it's only been run once or twice.

This is a Kyosho scale Porsche. Looks like an Ultima chassis to me, but I never owned one. My ex bough this for "her" car, but I ended up finishing the chassis, and she never decided on a color for the body so it's still unpainted. I believe I still have all the parts for it. Not sure what to do with this thing...

This is my Turbo Rocky, one of only a couple I have that I didn't build myself. Got this used in a trade, and I have to say I wish I'd gotten one sooner. I raced this one till the mid stretch came out, and it was great. I just got done cleaning/polishing this one. I'd love to get a box art body to top it off, but so far no luck. Anyone know someone that could do that for me?

Next is the Double Dare. I had hoped this might be competition for the Clodbuster, given Kyosho's dominance in the buggies, but it didn't work out that way. dual motors and steering, but so much flex in everything, and it had a tendency to roll over. Still, it's pretty.

These are my Lazer ZX's. The red one was always mine, and the black one was a buddy's. After he crashed it, he gave it to me to repair. I told him to get the parts and I'd take care of it. The parts never arrived, and that was 20 some odd years ago. The black one has been brought in for restoration/cleaning this winter.

And lastly, one of my favorites, the Maxxum. I thought a front wheel drive car was the coolest thing. Once I got it dialed in, and the right tires, I was doing well in the 2wd class....until it was ruled that they had to compete in the 4wd class. They weren't as good there. Still, it was fun while it lasted, and I still love this care today.

Thanks, it's great to able to share these with people that know what they are and appreciate them.

Since my buddy was in Japan at the time we had these (they were the last cars I bought before I left), and he's since disappeared, I'm guessing it's mine now. After getting the pics in the garage, I've brought this one in for repairs and maybe I'll put it back on the road/dirt. The front bulkhead is broken, and the susp arm and hinge pin is missing. I've heard there are other susp arms I can use, and I think I have some spares in my collection for the other parts. Since my spares are in an old wooden footlocker, I'll have to wade through it and see what I have. Maybe I'll even do a restore/build thread on it if there's interest.

Someday.......I will own one of those King Cabs. Been a Nissan fan since my first car, and *always* wanted one of these, but now it seems most people want a fortune for them.

It's a nice looking truck, but that's about it. If you're a Nissan fan, that's a different thing. I see one or two on eBay, they don't seem too pricey, or you make me an offer :)

Nice collection! I love the Slingshot and the Maxxum as well. Look forward to seeing some restoring along the way.

Thanks, I was really looking forward to running the slingshot, but never really got the chance. The Maxxum has always been a favorite, and it's restored about as much as I planned on. I cleaned, detailed repaired and polished, but I like the slightly worn and used look it has. Wouldn't mind a new body, but the original still looks good.
