Story of My Losi LXT

Hello Guys,
Sorry again for my English !! New post from a Frenchy

During my last Vintage race in June, there was a trunck category and i was really impressed by these beasts (RC10T, T2, Storm2000 and Traxxas Eagle LS).

So i found a chassis on ebay, and this is what i discovered when it came from Germany:

Image

It's not in a really good shape, isn't it ? For my consolation, i have some Tecnacraft rods  and 2 completes Hydradrives systems.

Image

The rear shock stay is coming from a JRX PRO SE i guess with some "enhancements" :? the rear dampes are not losi ones for sure

Image

At least the worst picture :

Image

Yes the Gearox is cracked

Inside the gearbox, same status

Image

But the chassis is in pretty good shape for a runner :

Image

So things are not so easy at that point !! The number of parts that would need to be replaced is quite huge

But somehow i want it for the next vintage race ..

So i bougth the necessary stuffs :

Image

This one is coming from Shapeway :

and the rebuild could start ..

And During the build i was already thinking about the paint theme. I saw Something that was cool on vintagelosi.com : the boxart picture of the Losi GTX:

Image

And i find it awesome ..so i have my coulour scheme

The build is still progressing :

For the Body, i found the Ford Ranger more pleasant than the formal one:

Image

And the paint job could start (not really my cup of tea, but i tried to do my best ...):

The Black color:
Image

The Yellow (i used Clear Pear PS-58 from Tamiya before the Yellow and pink paints to try to get someting nice Under the light of the sun..we'll see)

Image

The Pink
Image

And all backed with White:
Image

with the blue film removed :

With all stickers installed :

And Finally, the result is not so bad! I mean, compared to what it was, there is a large large gap

Very Very coo! Just like for the TRX1, i happen to have a massive soft spot for the LXT (which you might have guessed if you still stroll around overrc ;) ).

Lotsa work went into this one, congratulations for a superbly done job, including a gorgeous body!

Couple of comments from a long-time LXT fan:
- pick up a few front body mounts as they are the first part to let go when the car is rolling on its body (yes, happens to the best of us!!!)
- the second part to let go is the RF hinge pin holders... get a few, too ;)
- the third part to let go is the front bulkhead but it looks like you got that figured out already
- use the wheel discs as they keep crud out of the spokes
- the RPM front arms are unbreakable BUT they are a bit on the soft side and they tend to make the front end a bit unpredictable...

Very well documented build - Good luck at the VONATS! :!:

NIce Job!

Hopefully you are better driver than my wife. I made one of those bulkheads through Shapeways using my own CAD file and wife broke it on the first lap around the track. Seems to be stronger than my 3D printer home version but still wasn't up to task for the price. But you do have the front brace so that might help.

Thanks for your purchases as well!

Thank you for all your comments :D
@Paul, i know you are one of the big fans of the LXT and i saw your very very detailed articles on overrc ... that contributed to help me restoring this baby indeed
@Mytimac, i will never let my wife drive one of my vintage cars.. but yes you’re right the 3D bulkhead may not be strong enough... i will surely have to invest in a nip front one :? But it is so expensive ! Any chance to have a real repro (same material) like the xxt one you have in your shop ??
