0C63AAF9-9C1C-4B38-B37D-381B17787CDF.jpeg Hey guys thought I would just post an update on this project. I have had some carbon pieces made up with the chassis now in a narrower profile made allowing more body options. Wheels are JC racing version of the original Kyosho pepper pot design. They are 2...

Re: My original CAT XL - freshly uncovered

Hi there dinglem, the only wheel adapters that were available for the CATs bitd from memory were by yokomo to fit their 2.2 wheels. Probably best thing is to get a set of JC racing wheels if you want to run modern rubber.

Re: My original CAT XL - freshly uncovered

Hey guys....FYI the one ways were mounted outboard as it allowed a quick conversion back to full time 4wd if required.

Re: XLS Rerelease

Hi Doug, I am unaware of a smaller front pulley than the 50T from Schumacher....pretty sure that was for the spool set up as per the SW/XL CAT and besides any smaller pulley the belt will start to hit the front stabilizer bar....no? 51T is standard for the integrator and differential pulleys. Cheers...

Re: XLS Rerelease

Hi XLR8, Firstly Happy New Year! I had to use 2mm tap to cut the threads on the gearbox plates and 3mm tap for the rest of the car.....it was just easier and faster this way. My understanding of the part time and full time 4wd theory is as such, generally a 4wd car by nature understeers into a turn ...

Re: XLS Rerelease

Thanks for the kind words XLR8, yes the dimples on the body shell are not accurate esp the ones near the rear. I line up the shell and marked it with a sharpie accordingly. Do the front first and use as the datum, then wherever the rest of the holes are is where I drill them. The hex screws are from...

Re: XLS Rerelease

Just sharing some mods I have done for the CAT. I made some alloy spacers to replace the plastic ones for the suspension. I noticed that some of the CATs i had restored in the past the screws were bent. I assume this is through flex.....hopefully this mod would prevent this from happening. 88F198C5-...

Re: Pro transmission

Hi there, Check the eccentric bearing holders (u7187 kit or u7245 alloy) in the rear gearbox. They have to be readjusted for the pro transmission. The instructions tells you to install the bearing holder indicator towards the top layshaft (way loose btw) for the stock transmission. With my pro trans...

Re: Sense check - XLS build from original parts

Hi there,

It appears you have already answered the question yourself....you want a restoration project and it does not matter if it is a yokomo or a Schumacher. Parts are readily available for the schumacher if u choose to restore an old cat so it will not be much of a project.
