Re: Basher 6 gear transmission
I've heard of out drives being trimmed and used as steel idler gears. That might be what these are. However if so, then they also got a bevel trim. Anyone know if aftermarket steel idlers were ever sold? Bevelling a straight cut gear isn't unheard of in powersports. It's usually done to decrease dr...

Re: Basher 6 gear transmission
This is interesting, I was just working on the 6gear for my build, and had the same revelation. The parts lot I bought had a second trans, with the dogbone cups being very worn. After a few measurements, I decided to cut down the outdrives to make idlers. The outdrive gears are the same thickness as...

Re: My graveyard of carcasses has arrived
So, a little progress; got the measles-looking pan bead blasted, epoxy primered, and painted with VHT Burnt Copper. Cleaned and dyed black all the purple plastics. Started reassembly, but I need to pick up some new hardware, and many other parts. Slow but steady progress. It will probably need to be...

Re: My graveyard of carcasses has arrived
These two holes are for mounting the battery cup inline. A stamp cars had the battery mounted transverse. All of my A stamp cars have been modified for inline batteries. Screenshot_20250325_144835_Samsung Internet.jpg I was looking at the two pans side by side tonight. You're correct, no extra hole...

Re: My graveyard of carcasses has arrived
I was looking at that tonight. Probably clean up countersink and make a bushing to resize the hole. I've got a lathe and I'm not afraid to use it!Frankentruck wrote: ↑Tue Mar 25, 2025 3:59 pm It's not a big deal, but this nose plate mount screw hole is the one I don't like.

Re: My graveyard of carcasses has arrived
Thanks Frankentruck. All the mods on the gold pan look really well done, not hackey at all. I didn't think either of these were really special, just wanted to make sure. I thought about leaving the 'patina' on Measles, but I like pretty builds :D However, I may reserve the pretty build for the other...

Re: My graveyard of carcasses has arrived
Yup, I've stripped enough coatings in my time. Probably bead blast it, epoxy primer, and gold color coat. You think I should start with that one? I'm calling it Measles for now... Is there any significant value to either pan, before I start? They're both A stamps, and I'm most likely going...

My graveyard of carcasses has arrived
After decades of absence from RC, I bought a group of RC10 pans and parts. Now bear in mind, I'm just a low level hobbyist, with minimal knowledge of the various mods, etc.. I do have solid (bordering on extensive) knowledge of all things mechanical, electrical, and electronic, relative to vehicles....

I work in Catonsville, right against the park. I see the mountain bikers parked on Rolling Rd all the time. I'm too fat and old for that!

Greetings from Maryland
Hi all, Getting back into r/c after a 30+ year hiatus. Started out with a few Sears and Radio Shack cars back in the 70s and early 80s. My first hobby grade was a Marui Samurai, quickly followed by an early Cadillac gold pan. Shopped at a little hobby shop on BelAir Rd in the Overlea area of Baltimo...
