Re: Another Optima Build: ProClass
Thanks Josh... the brown is a 19. That is scribed on the endbell... as someone in this post reminded me :) Unfortunately I think I have a shorted winding on the motor. Had a wire unsolder itself in the last run. Soon I will have a new set of motors to freshen up the drivetrain. Definitely love the n...

Re: My Optima finally finished
Oh well, I tried... It'll be on the bay tomorrow at 6:00pm pst.
It is a very sweet build
Was the Optima the Javelin of the first pic?
That Javelin body will fetch good coin if you decide to sell it.

Re: My Optima finally finished
Nice work! ...you really need a gear cover with that stock center gear. Then you can put some grease on the gears for a little longer life. Oh, and look what I found in my junk box... an original MINT! clutch-pinion type lexan gear cover! Taking offers! http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2461/3565769982...

Re: Another Optima Build: ProClass
All in all, this has been the funnest of the 3 resto projects. It was a lot worse off than I thought when I started. The build is nowhere near concourse but the total outlay was minimal... antenna tube and cap: $1, shock oil: $1.25 ...and Platinum shocks was part of the ebay salvage rig so maybe $20...

Thanks Karni Here is the final pix of the insides... with descriptions. This is how simple your Optima can be on the insides: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3575/3563447591_04286f8ca5.jpg ...and this is how the battery is installed: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3404/3564264478_b8c3e985fa.jpg This ...

Re: Another Optima Build: ProClass
I like the style, but why did you put the shocks upright if you planned using this body? The old lay-down shocks would have fitted without chopping the front of the body I had every intention to lower the body to the extent I did. In order to not interfere in the back, the body had to sit toward th...

Re: Another Optima Build: ProClass
A little more progress has been acheived... The old shell was lowered nearly 2-1/2" and seriously trimmed... http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3365/3553166054_8214591c09.jpg ...or a more classic view http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3393/3552357431_7814286db2.jpg ...or a more comic version: TAKE ME ...

Re: Another Optima Build: ProClass
Kyosho ball diffs are pretty easy to modify to chain gears. you just machine off the belt cog and machine out the middle of the chain diff... a bit of superglue and whallah! chain version of the ball diff. The worst was putting the separator plate on the rear diff before gluing on the chain gear. Th...

Another Optima Build: ProClass
This too was a screaming mimi in its day. I've got the chassis assembled ready for the electronics. This rebuild includes some changes like dual ball diffs and a higher angle on the shocks along with the stock suspension arms instead of the Maxxim arms. These are also the platinum shocks from the re...

Re: Optima wheel question
There is always a little clearance for the axle to float. You cannot use washers up against the bearings. Also look for some debris in the bearing seat of your hubs. Never had a bit of trouble with the drive hex's. Worst part is trying to remove them from universal shafts. If nothing else, get yours...
