Re: Kyosho Double Dare Refresh

Thanks for the tip on dyeing the shocks. I've got a pair of Double Dares and my shocks have "pinked" as well.

rerelease Ulitma suggested spares

Are there any weak spots or suggested spares to pick up for the Ultima rerelease kit while they are available? (spurs gears, arms, uprights, anything, etc.) I've read the chassis could at times bend. Is this only in severe crash situations? Would a Factory Works fiberglass upper chassis deck be a go...

What factors led to the Ultima's win at the '87 Worlds?

The title pretty much says it all. Why did Kyosho's new Ultima dominate the '87 Worlds? Was Associated too overconfident or taken by surprise? Did the track suit the Ultima's design better? Was it all just down to tires? Any thoughts?

Kickup angles throughout time

Just out of curiosity, how/why did manufacturers decide or settle on particular kickup angles for their buggies? The RC10 started with 30 degrees but its first major rival, the Ultima, only had 20. The JRX2 also ran a 20 but the follow up JRX-Pro was back up to 30. Was there a benefit ether way or s...

Re: Innovative attempts to create rear toe-in or kick-up in RC?

I was thinking that too. Keeping the original plastic, fixed trailing arm arrangement of the Egress would just require additional holes drilled to add some rear toe. It would great to see some 3D printed (metal preferably) Booth-style front arm mounts but these would cause issue when used on the re-...

Re: Innovative attempts to create rear toe-in or kick-up in RC?

Considering the cars you brought up, the Vanquish and Egress, I had similar questions in my youth. The Avante was supposed to be this highly adjustable car but in reality the effectiveness of those adjustments is questionable. Adapting Avante rear trailing arms to the Vanquish/Egress could provide a...

Re: Optima Mid RERE

I think its Tower that's claiming the next shipment will be September 2022. At this point, I don't trust the 2022 part. Could be '23 or '24. Hopefully it comes before Russia launches us into nuclear war, lol.

Re: Tamiya Top Force build in 2022

Very nice Top Force. I also heat my screws up with a lighter to prevent cracking the plastic. The front gearbox seems to often have cracking issues where the bottom cover screws on in hard use/competition. I feel part of this is due to the front cover also serving as the lower suspension arm mount a...

Re: RCCA monster truck shootout May 1988

Even though this thread's a bit old, I'm fairly certain the absence of the Big Grizzly in the shootout was bought up by a reader in the letters column later on. IIRC, RCCA said Varicom couldn't "supply" them with the truck in time for the article.

Re: Info on this RC10 from RCCA

I saw that too. I have to go digging in my RCCA collection but I think the first car may have evolved into the second car. Steve Pond did the article on the first car in the the first year of RCCA's existence. I thought there was a later article about adding a Trinity(?) graphite chassis but I might...

Info on this RC10 from RCCA

There's a RC10 paint job that I'd like to replicate that I first saw in the RCCA shootout between the RC10 and the Ultima. I've seen it elsewhere floating around and wondered if it was the same car. Here's some pics: https://flic.kr/p/2mPNtFY I first saw it like this in an article about modifying th...

Re: Ideal vintage 2wd wheelbase

Thanks for the insights. In reading, the Bandit seems kind of prone to understeer. I'm thinking of bringing it down to a RC10 length wheelbase.

Ideal vintage 2wd wheelbase

Having mostly Tamiya and Associated 2wd buggies in my runner stable, I am used to the 10.5-ish wheelbase common in gold tubs and Madcaps. I picked up a Traxxas Bandit awhile back and will probably get into modding it this winter. The first thing that struck me was how long its wheelbase was, like th...
