Re: Vintage 1/5 scale dragster/hot rod quick change rear end/axle

Thanks guys, I will do that, this is neither of those brands, both those I have seen and they are a little different plus they are 1/4 scale, this is smaller. It is old the way its made and all, not new for sure. This was part of a large large vintage collection that the seller had acquired from a c...

Vintage 1/5 scale dragster/hot rod quick change rear end/axle

I got this on ebay not too long ago, happened to come across it by chance, bid really big on it and now have it, really well made and have no clue who if a person or a company made it. Its so well constructed, just beautiful. I wanted to know if anyone out there knows anything about it, it measures ...

Re: Vintage Scorpion diffs

Thanks TomEG, at the time when I was bidding on the vintage SS body, the seller had all the parts in separate auctions, the bidding for the plastic doors handles were just sky rocketing in price, I was glad I got the body and nearly outbid but won it, I thought about making my own from aluminum and ...

Re: Vintage Scorpion diffs

TomEG - I started off with just one build - kyosho scorpion with vintage scorcher body, I knew what I wanted and the design was so clear in my mind, started hopping it up with CRP axles, ishipla shocks, later alloy wheels, than CB like short shocks, mounted re-re body with cut out fenders so the tir...

Re: Vintage Scorpion diffs

HatTrick - before I bought the one on ebay, I had 2 already and another - a fixed thorp diff without pinion gear, well the first one, I paid $200 for, the second one I got lucky on the bay, an ebay seller (no my good friend) had it together with a big parts lot consisting of thorps for scorpion and ...

Re: Vintage Scorpion diffs

Man that MIP diff for the scorp is super!!!! That would be the way to go. Thorp diffs are very built proof but SOOOO heavy, wish they had used titanium  , well the MIP would be an upgrade from the thorp, less wight, and low inertial, I would think the MIP to be very rare, WOW, and yes the n...

Re: Vintage racing re-releases. Rc10 vs the rest

wow these magazines sure have a wealth of information! and potentially very important and to the point explanations, I better read them! You can learn so much. Yes, I LOVE trailing arm setups, just the way they look brings a smile to be, like for e.g. the scorps trailing arms, if you look from the b...

Re: Vintage racing re-releases. Rc10 vs the rest

oh I am sorry, yes, I was talking about the active change in angle when the suspension travels and using camber as the description, Well you know what I meant, when the trailing arms move up, they swing up and in a little and produce that negative angle. I guess the a-arms can be made to do that as ...

Re: Vintage racing re-releases. Rc10 vs the rest

Tamiya Dan, what do you think about the A & L trailing arms, A & L conversions for RC10, ultima and optima, Man A&L sure made some nice FRP chassis, nice trailing arms and other hardware for a proper conversion. They still sell the rear trailing arms and hardware but no FRP chassis. I bo...

Re: Optima is back!!

i guess the fronts experience more suspension action, but the rear is always a bit heavier therefore the longer shocks for more stiffness? who knows but in contrast if the fronts could be a tad shorter than the rears, the look would be pleasant. You can scale down almost anything to 1/10 and have it...

Re: Kyosho Beetle build

hmmn, now that mention it, there would be a lot of drag on the rounded and 'blunt' body of the beetle. at the speeds that can travel, drag does become a big factor for sure. I am pretty rusty and fluid mechanics but these small toys experience laminar flow or low Re flow, drag is quite high. No wond...

Re: Optima is back!!

I love vintage stuff and the gold shocks have proven their capability. I rather like the look of the re re optima shocks though, that clean one piece shock body with the bottom cap, very scale and design takes its roots from the CB shocks it looks like, but than again the scorps, ultimas had similar...
