You certainly can do that..if you are running on a sandless environment like carpet or hard packed clay.

Re: Raced My LWB Optima Mid today

OK that makes sense Do you still need the plastic tube attached to the gear cover with the VTS setup or does the adjustment nut fit inside the gear cover like it does on the Lazer you always need that plastic tube no matter Lazer or Optima Mid. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x87/alcyon2sp/20141...

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x87/alcyon2sp/IMG-20150214-WA0012_zps0gw2cmny.jpeg cheap heatsink that I got from the local electronics store, seems there was a tapped hole already drilled into the motor plate, just had to find a long enough M3 screw, and put some heat conductin paste, voila ! Re: Raced My LWB Optima Mid today

Thanks for posting that pic So does the new layshaft do away with the yellow plastic spacer that usually sits behind the spur gear? Why can't you use a heatsink motor plate? Looking at your pic there seems to be enough clearance for the fins of the heatsink motor plate I have on my Mid Yes, you don...

Re: Raced My LWB Optima Mid today

Thanks welshy40, indeed in 2011 to mid 2014 I was still struggling with my cars and learning setups, things only started to fall together in late 2014, indeed, having lots of caster is very important for stability and ease of driving on such low grip surfaces. I learnt that the hard way. HKS TRD, th...

Re: Raced My LWB Optima Mid today

Mate, one day I am going to have to bring my Lazer over and show you some real speed  but congrats, never thought you'd go so far a couple of years back but with a little perseverance and great design skills look at you now. Oh yes talking of 2wd, this is in my cupboard and is a sweeter ride, ...

Re: Raced My LWB Optima Mid today

Last final of the day, notice after the first big jump, one buggy annoyingly forced my OMCS into the track barrier, costing me some time, and placing me 9th. Luckily I managed to wiggle my way out and fought my way up. In some laps you don't see my car, it because the ...

Re: Raced My LWB Optima Mid today

Its great to hear the Mid is performing so well. Do you have any plans to make a layshaft for the VTS slipper with a shorter spring like you have for the Lazer or is I not needed for the Mid? Yes I have a new layshaft for the Mid that can use VTS, but you need to do a slight modification to space o...

Re: #6002 - RC10 Worlds Car Kit

Indeed. I just tried my friends 93 worlds re re yesterday in practice..i never driven a 2wd...and i got the hang of it right away. He put in a 8.5t and yet the car was still controlable and corners great with minimum spin outs..i was driving it lap after lap smoothly..i felt so stoked..as i expected...

Re: Raced My LWB Optima Mid today

Nice to hear the Optima did well, did you get out and race the Scorpion the other day? I have not bought any 2wd buggies yet. I did see a guy on youtube who drove a scorpion really well and i am tempted to get one. But a buddy of mine who is also into vintage buggies..let me drive his 93 worlds rc1...

Raced My LWB Optima Mid today

On the 8th of February, which is today, I raced my LWB mid in the 4WD class. as you all know the vintage class is non existent here, so I had to pit my Mid against all the modern cars. In total we had 15 guys racing today. The competition consisted of in order . 1. X ray XB4 2. Durango DEX 410 V3 &a...

Re: Optima mid vs Lazer?

Thanks for the nice words Twister, really made my day. Looking forward to seeing it. Ok I am a lazer fanatic through and through and do admit Alcyons mid with those mods is as good as mine, no harm in having both. Also Alcyon makes some really good option parts for both cars including the layshaft ...

Re: Optima mid vs Lazer?

Lol welshy40..i wouldnt say the lazer isnt great..but in my opinion the biggest advantage handling wise the lazer has over the mid is suspension. You place the better suspension in the mid you also get the handling. they just have different ways of transmiting power. modifying too much of either car...

Re: Optima mid vs Lazer?

I would get both castor blocks,, the type with some angle and the type with no angle,,,Going to also recommend ball diffs, and the hard trans gears from thorp or mip. Other than that, wheels, tires, springs, swaybars, turn buckle links, fresh new rod ends(ball cups). The antiroll bars are highly so...
