Re: Optima Mid Questions/Help

If you go with 2.2 wheels, then the best all purpose tires are proline dirt hogs. They will last forever, and grip fantastically. As for 2.0 wheels,, I would stick with good quality USA rubber if possible. It lasts longer. Losi, AE, proline, Their rubber is high quality, dosent crack and degrade so...

Re: Batteries and Chargers

I too used to race back when we had Nicd batteries, and then left the hobby for some time, only to pick it up again a few years back. When I did, I went straight to Lipo's. You can also get "shorty" lipo batteries that fit a lot of applications easier. I skipped over the whole Nimh era. L...

Re: Optima Mid Questions/Help

So I picked up a mid. In great shape. Silly wheel questions now. Playing with the wheels and stuff, I forgot that Kyosho used a "press on" method for the hubs that the wheels connect to. Looking at the re-release of the Optima, they redesigned the shafts to have a hole (like Tamiya and oth...

Re: My Vintage Hotshot 4WD

I assume that there NiMH batteries that will fit in the battery compartment of the Hotshot. Which ones would be a good known fit?

Re: My Vintage Hotshot 4WD

To follow up from my post in the tech section:

Which battery works best in the vintage Hotshot? Right now I am leaning toward NiNM just for running around.

Thanks!

Re: Batteries and Chargers

Just beware too that some of the newer NiMh batteries are slightly larger than the older ones and might not fit either. You didn't state what cars you wanted to use these in but I'm assuming an RC10 since your here. If you want to conserve your original chassis it would be best to buy a re-re bulkh...

Re: Batteries and Chargers

That helps a lot, thank you!

That charger needs battery-specific connectors that are purchased separately, right?

Batteries and Chargers

Hey Guys, I did some searching and couldn't find anything specifically related to my questions, so I thought I would ask here. I tried my local hobby shop, and they were less than helpful. I understand the changes with the hobby and batteries. I ran cars when it was NiCd and you have fast chargers a...

Re: Optima Mid Questions/Help

If running a mid, then top of the hop up list would be thorp or mip hardened center gear. Other than that, the car can handle brushless and lipo power. EVerything else is just gravy. Although, the more serious a person is regarding racing, then the more important the upgrade path becomes. I wouldnt...

Re: My Vintage Hotshot 4WD

Yes. Just completed a build of the re-release Hotshot (with a few custom parts) and comparing the manuals with the original most parts are pretty much identical and therefore interchangeable. Have a look at the old and new manuals on line just to compare. upla.JPG I like that front bumper--which on...

Re: My Vintage Hotshot 4WD

Got my hotshot apart yesterday. All in all, it looks pretty good for a 30 year old car that was really abused by a young and inexperienced kid! Front arms and hubs will be replaced. Top chassis as well. Ordered complete screw sets too. Question--the old 4wd shaft is the "hexagonal" type. N...

Re: Optima Mid Questions/Help

That is a sweet car!

I am not on Facebook--never did establish an account there.

I love those wheels--they were the same on my original optima mid. I can't believe how expensive they are now.

I will PM you to get some ideas on parts and vendors.

Thanks!

Re: Optima Mid Questions/Help

Speaking of gear boxes and diffs... I know that technology has GREATLY improved since the optima mid first came out. What are some common and readily available improvements that allow the mid to handle some of these? I assume that there are some aftermarket accessories available for drive stuff--gea...

Re: My Vintage Hotshot 4WD

I found my original Hotshot this past weekend. Shipped it to my house. I am excited to get it and my FAV running as well.

With the re-releases it will be easy to get them moving again. I am looking forward to it.

Re: Optima Mid Questions/Help

Thanks for the reply. Yeah it is exciting to get back into the hobby. I am so excited--been all over eBay and I need to have some patience and see what shows up. My initial thoughts are to go the route of a parts cars like everyone is saying. There seems to be a couple of great stores on eBay for Ky...
