I can weigh in on this issue of printing on clear sticker paper as well. I had terrible results too, as morrisey0 said. The colored/red areas were too transparent and became almost invisible when applied to a dark painted body.

I've had good success peroxiding white Clodbuater wheels, I don't know what material they are made out of but it worked great.

Incremental but better
Lightly sanded and polished the chassis, got rid of 80% of the scratches
Cleaned and blackened all the steel screws
Cleaned and put the original white plastic nuts on that hold the wings
New G10 plate/ballstud mount on motor...

I was lucky to come across another Carlsson car. It was a Beginner with just about all the parts I needed for my first car. Here is my car now. Radio plate ,new front bumper and a few little things.
Back in the mid 80's, for a birthday, my father bought a Rock Buster from our local hobby shop. I remember him assembling it on my grandmothers kitchen table. Had a ton of fun with it as a kid until a neighbor brought home an RC10, lol.
