Any recommendations for a modern servo for my vintage RC10T? I hear the Savox 1258 is good, any modern Futaba servos that compare? Any others?

I have a Turnigy TS 920 in my Durango stadium truck and I love it. It's very fast, powerful and quiet. They've increased in price since I got mine, but I think they're well worth the price. It's got very similar specs as the Savox 1258 for 1/3 less...
I know this is a forum for mostly vintage rc10 but maybe one of you professional experts could help me ?
I have a (maybe) simple question: a few months ago I bought a Team Associated 1/10 2WD RC10T4.3 stadium truck and still...

Yes, the infrared guns are the easiest to use. If you have a specific manufacturer, check their website and/or manuals to see what they recommend. Each manufacturer has different temps and can range from 150-200. I personally don't like to exceed...
I got an RC10 CE B stamp when I was 8 (~1992) and drove it like crazy. Nowak ESC, 1500MaH batteries, 15 min charger. It has a Stealth Transmission.
I read the stickyed thread, though many links are 404 due to age. I was hoping you guys who know...

Ok, newb question: what size tires does my CE take for the 2 piece wheels? I have set of Losi A-7202 tires that seem too big and I got a set of Proline Edge tires that are too small that I thought would fit since they said they were for the old...
sooo
this thing was in a emax I picked up in a rc lot
guy said something about using it for a college robotics class
said its a wifi receiver
it has t usb ports on it one is connected to a usb wifi dongle
other end is attached to a Logitech usb...
Looking to repower my 10T. I've been running 15T motors most recently. I'd like more power but still want to be able to control it. Truck has a freshly rebuilt Stealth trans with a B4 slipper setup. Looking for a system that is comfortable with 3s...

Check the b4 manual for suggestions, then multiply by 2.6/2.25 to adjust for the internal difference.
Im going to be installing a brushless motor/esc combo in my rc10 ce. I had just about decided on the trackstar 17.5 from hobbyking.com well, wondering eyes have me looking at cheaper options on ebay. especially after my experience with the goolrc...

totally agree. With the exception of the maybe the steering bellcranks, everything you listed in a nice to have, and not really necessary(except bearings). The bellcranks themselves aren't really necessary, I just like how the later ones tighten up...
I was looking for a new tx and rx to get an older Kyosho Raider Pro ARR up and going again. I was on a bujjgdet and didnt want to spend a lot of money. Found this one on ebay, located and shipping from the states for 26.15. Could have got it for a...

I agree, really nice review.
Not only are today's Rx's ultra tiny, some of them don't even need an antenna. That said, the Corona Rx's I have actually have two short antennas (or, antennae I guess) and both of them together won't fit through a...
Ok, I've got the cars cleaned up and ready to go. Finally picked up a couple batteries and a new charger. Now it seems my old radios don't want to work. So, I need some budget friendly radios and receivers. I don't need anything more than simple 2...

Just gto the GT3C and Quanum in - WOW, can't believe how small the receivers are! Haven't tried to install yet, my ESC hasn't arrived. Did get some great 2.2 wheels and some 12mm adapters for the Terra Scorcher.
Now I've only just returned to the hobby about 4 years ago after a 20 year absence so there's lots of things I've never seen before. I've never seen a Savox brand motor posted on ebay before. I wasn't even aware that Savox made motors. Why is it so...

Thanks for reaching out to them Nomad.
Hmm, I wonder what happened. They build some of the best servos on the market and have a stellar reputation so motors should have been easy for them. Maybe it's just a crowded field. Do you know if they ever...
I recently bought an RC10T4.3 stadium truck and I am extremely happy with it, it runs super smooth and stable.
I was expecting a little bit more speed (just a bit more) but since it’s a RTR combo it came optimized with gearing for...

Great to hear you're back on track with the ESC recalibration. Keep in mind that, all else being equal, the higher you gear up for top speed, the slower your acceleration will be. You can compensate for this somewhat by adjusting your ESC Punch...
I just swapped my Reedy M3 17.5 in my B6 for the Reedy S Plus 17.5. I have been delaying this because I was thinking a 17.5 is a 17.5, mine is still in great condition and I'm not going to spend a hundred bucks just to have the latest thing. Well, I...
Hi guys,
I'd like some feedback on my wiring. This is my first electric build and I'm not used to the types of connectors and insanely fat wiring. The 5000mAh batteries I got have these massive 8 gauge wires which make wiring kind of a pain.
So do the new metal gear servos no longer require Servo savers?

I took my time before sending my S6240 Spektrum in for warranty but a mere 3 weeks after sending it in I got it back.
No more rattles!!! Horizon sent me a new servo. I haven't even put the cap back on the receiver yet. Works great.
What servo you guys running these days? My old back yard cars ran futaba s148 and jr nes507. Looking for an upgrade to digital and w some more speed without dropping $100 for a back yard car.
Would like to hear from racers and back yard guys alike.

I like the Savox 1258TG.
I have the plain yellow one, a Black edition, just ordered a Ryan Cavaleri version.
Just ordered 2 of these and I have to say for the price that are awesome. I will be equipping more of my cars with these servos as...
well this isnt your usual topic here, but can anyone recommend a small brushless setup for a 16 tunnel/hydro? I have no idea when it comes to brushless, so motor / speed control (amps?) / battery are all unknown to me. in the oldschool days, a 380...

Hi,
I have a NQD Tear Into, Jet Boat that is 16 inches long, that I put together.
I bought a $10 380 size brushless motor from China and a $10 Brushless Speed control, again from China.
In my B6 I just replaced my 600z with an Orion R10.1 (in Blinky) and it seems so much faster now. Is that right, does the type and price of an ESC make that much of a difference? I literally made no other changes. I was always under the impression...

I have a Hobby Wing Just Stock on my T5M, I'm thinking of getting a Reedy 510R and moving the HW to my son's B4.2 to start learning how to drive properly on the track.
I picked up a used dirty novak t4 untested. It had frayed receiver wire but otherwise intact. I replaced the wires after cleaning everything up and soldering on fresh connectors.
Plugged in to rx with a battery and it powers up the rx and servo no...

I have a minty T4 case from an ESC that sounds similar to yours, if you need a case for display purposes. Its such a let down when you buy an electronic device and it doesn't work. :|
Hey guys, I bought a six year old ESC that came with a T5M for a great deal. The problem is when wired up, the ESC won’t run unless I manually start the wheels turning. Once turning it works great, brakes and everything, but once the wheels come to...

Agreed the V3.1 and XR10 are likely too adjustable for the average user, but they offer a lot of tunability. The data logging is quite simple but extremely handy as it gives you a snapshot of how your system is performing. The HV BEC is also...
My other main hobby is airsoft , in airsoft brushed motors are still the norm but they now have neodymium magnets , was there ever a brushed RC car motor that had neodymium magnets , I've had a bit of a surf but found nothing , I even bought a...

Then that makes sense , in airsoft the motors are designed for high torque not high rpm so the neo brushed motors would be perfect .
Thanks for the reply .
Hey guys, I had a question about my new lipo battery and charger. So I've been charging 2S Lipos with an Imax B6AC charger for quite a few years without a problem. However, I recently tried charging my new 6S, 22.2v, 5,000 mah lipo battery with it...

that's the issue with most AC/DC chargers - the inner converter design usually has cut corners to cut costs. And when it toasts, you have to replace the whole thing :(
There are plenty of good choices out there. I was using 6S for a couple of years...
I've just come to install a brushless motor, in my RC10 Team Car, only to find that the mounting holes on the motor are slightly too far apart for the holes on the RC10 motor plate.
The motor is a Reedy Sonic 540 M3 #269. I bought it nearly new...

I think the issue is with the old motor plates as brushed motors had a pair of holes side by side which were each slightly off center. The RC10/T motor plate had a fixed lower mounting hole so the motor has to rotate instead of slide to adjust mesh....
Change is always frustrating. I have been slowly and painfully converting over to brushless and lipo for the past couple years. I know this is old news and it's been discussed to death, but some of this is just a pain. I have been learning about the...

A couple friends and I were out of racing from about 2001 until 2011, and when we got back into it, one of them bought the top of the line tekin setup at the time. So of course we geared it like we vaguely remembered gearing a stock motor. I think...
Looking to buy a nice (but price wise) Transmittter and reciever for my 2.5 T-maxx. Steering servo was bugging out. I switched the throttle and steering wires from the reciever and steering on the throttle channel worked great. Of corse the throttle...

I looked at that one as well but I just couldn't get over the design. Way too funky looking for me. :? :)
On a full charge pack, my daughter's Reedy 1000z+ goes 100% for 5-7 seconds then drops to about 50% max throttle. It continues to do this throughout the pack. She is having fun driving this re-release, but this is getting frustrating.
As info i...

The lipo battery solved the problem. Also, I've never seen that much power. Wow. Makes these brushless motors shine. Need to tame it back a bit.
I did some searching and couldn't find anything specifically related to my questions, so I thought I would ask here. I tried my local hobby shop, and they were less than helpful.
I understand the changes with the hobby and batteries. I...

Yeah, for 48 hours I don't think it'd be a problem at all. And as far as I understand it, for longer term storage you should leave them at ~half charge.
At the track I had asked what those guys do week to week... most finish their run and leave...
I was setting of my new re-re to run next week and decided to go shorty. I order a pack off amazon and one off ebay to compare. The picture below shows what I found. The middle pack is basically the same size as what I have always had and was the...

If you guys are interested in running shortie packs side to side I have some custom mounts available that bolt right into to rc10's.
I've sold quite a few sets of these.
Hi,
Atomik RC has motors all the way up to 60T I believe, I am trying to get 2 of my cars slow enough for my kids. Does anyone know how many turns the classic 540 can has, I just need an approximate and will go from there. Kids are almost 4 and 5....

I made the mistake of buying my 5 year old son a Turnigy Rally Extreme 1/16 scale brushless car thinking it would be a good entry level car. It was like $100 all told from hobby king at the time. Out of the box the esc was dead so I had a mamba...
I've tried to read everything I can find on brushless motors.

It is much appreciated.
I'm wanting to revive my old RC10T with a brushless setup. I don't want to put anything ridiculous in the truck as I haven't driven RC in a long time and I don't trust myself with a really powerful setup. It needs to be controllable, I don't need...

I paid $31 and change, shipped on eBay for the combo.

I figured I would do a little mini-review of this BL system for those who might be looking for an esc/motor combo for their re-re or vintage cars. Let me start out by saying that the new Hobbywing 3650 G2 motors have been totally redesigned. The...

Long story short, I'm just getting back into RC after 25+ year absence. I bought a Worlds rere and need to stuff it with electronics.
Normally I would research these things a little more but I have scored a pretty decent discount through Amain for...
I am building some Kyosho re-releases and wish to equip them with identical motor/ESCs. I am thinking a ~2500kv motor and a hobbywing 60A ESC.

Of course white plastics would be epic, but the gold is sure nice to see! Those are the thickest towers I've ever made. They are 3/16 thick. These guys don't mess around nowadays
Sounds like he is leaning towards a Jay Halsey paint scheme 8)
I was out of the hobby in the mid 2000's so I missed the whole transition. From what I can gather, brushed was still being used when the B3 was out but was it still being used when the B4 was introduced?

Starting just after you left the hobby, 2005-2010-ish. As for the B3/B4 question, no idea.
Is LRP Quadra Pro 2 Charger still a good LiPo charger? Will it get the job done? I picked it up years back for charging some random NiMH packs and it says it can handle LiPos. Don't know if there's some magic in the newer chargers to make them any...

LRP is a decent brand. I have no info on that particular charger, but if it was mine I'd use it for Lipo's. I have 4 chargers, and tend to use the old ones most often. There's no magic behind them. The older ones likely just charged at lower amp...
