I remember that slot car track.

Didn't they make a semi one that changed lanes too?

TCR Rocked!!! I had the 3-level circuit when I was kid, you could "jump" from one "floor" to another (basically the rails would end with a plastic insert), this was the highest in the range and it costed a fortune back then... My dad and I played played with it for hours, it took an hour to put together anyway. I had the Datsun, Coutach, Vette and a couple of others... so much fun. The problem is, the lane-changing mechanism in the car where the wheels actually really steer is a bit of a PITA to maintain in perfect shape, and after a few hours the cars won't change lanes anymore. I'm pretty sure there's a couple of boxes sitting swhere in my parent's basement...

Here's a cool page I just found... not mine, but gives you an idea.

Slot cars are fun because the challenge is to find how fast you can go before the car flies off the track. TCR was cool because you weren't slave to, well, a "slot" ;)

Yep. I had the Semi's, with an Ambulance "Jam Car". I remember you had to keep a pencil eraser handy to keep the oxidation off the track rails and car pick-ups.

They were fun and the reason for the short lived life was kinda summed up above. Aurora/AFX also had a small stint with slotless slot cars which lasted just about as long...twice. Both times ended up with the same results...tons of recalls and leftovers. If you don't mind the constant tinkering with them to keep them working right they are a blast though.
