Re: Land Speed Rocket Car
It crashed real bad, slammed into a concrete wall...
Several theories:
-AVC Gyro turned instantly on its own
-rear downforce was so high it pushed down the back of car until it was sliding on the button head screws
Need more rear ride height, going to wider foam.rear tires, and ditching the gyro

Re: Land Speed Rocket Car
Huge investigation was implemented to find out why it turned...not sure if the AVC turned the wheels or not...but regardless it's getting removed....the main reason is to why it turned into the wall:
The downforce at the rear was so extreme it pressed the rear of the car and collapsed the rear springs and flexed the struts to the point that the button head screws were completely ground flat...at that point it was sliding on steel and had zero rear grip....I am gonna go to 10th scale foam tires to get more traction, increase the ride height in the rear and lose the AVC....that run was 13.8lbs of thrust from two engines and it would have ran 100mph had it not turned...next run will be a single 19lb engine to go for 120mph straight and safe...then I can start turning it up and running two stages of thrust....1st stage will get it to 100mph without overpowering it, 2nd stage will push it hard another 120mph....Bingo!...World Record!...sound easy?...it isn't.

If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

Re: Land Speed Rocket Car
Are you planning to remove some downforce? It is only going to increase as speed increases. Already dragging its a$$ at "only" 96 mph.
Such an awesome project! I gotta think of an excuse to go to Evansville

Re: Land Speed Rocket Car
No....I am just gonna increase ride height...I need the down force to hold it on the track once it gets over 150mph....I57 Dragstrip is in Benton, Illinois

Re: Land Speed Rocket Car
The car was completely destroyed..i.am not rebuilding it....what happened was the engine mount broke on initial launch causing it to turn violently....it traveled to 83mph in that short distance...we found shims that were mounted under the engine mount laying on the track shortly after where it took off but way before the crash site...it's all over R.I.P.

Yes it's a big shame to see. Gotta be tough to deal with. It was a very impressive build nonetheless.
