Project XX
Project XX
So managed to pick up a XX or two. First up we have a XX-CR, complete and in decent condition. Second is XX-CR Kinwald and not too shabby. Also have a complete rear end with bulkhead, arms, tranny, motor plate, shock tower, basically everything all there to bolt on to the chassis. All that is missing is the chassis itself and the front bulkhead to make a complete 3rd car, also have spare front arms, hubs, braces etc...
I guess the Kinwald is my main target so that will surely be my main race car. It seems to be missing its graphite arms all round, the CR has them on the front so I guess I'll be swapping them over, need to get some rears. I see there is a difference between the CR front shock tower and the Kinwald, what is the benefit of the Kinwald setup? I want to use the 8040 CR body and it's a real tight fit getting the front in the Kinwald tower...
Really looking forward to driving a XX for the first time
Oh and, pictures to follow tomorrow.

Re: Project XX
Take your time and make everything mechanically fluid and you'll be hooked on your xx. Pics are almost mandatory

Re: Project XX
I am definitely interested to know where the 'almost' three XX's came from....RC10Eh wrote:Wow what a score , did it come from Canada

Re: Project XX
Yes indeed, some guy called Paul I thought you would be on here somewhere, now I know who you are hehe.RC10Eh wrote:Wow what a score , did it come from Canada
So yes, customs robbed me big time. They had your name as the importer and recipient too, they wanted your ID to collect the parcel... Just the usual complications then
Thanks for all the help by the way
Anyway then some photos, not very good, low light, kids munching at my legs etc... They will be better when I start the build.
Everything except CR chell, the litte un is munching on it somewhere in the house.
CR
Kinwald
White steering arms as opposed to black on the CR, not sure why.
Shafts
CR shafts slightly different, MIP? (Paul?) The outdrives look quite new so will probably steal them too.
I'm thinking of getting a brand new chassis to start things off nicely. Will transfer the front arms from the CR and buy some new rears. Probably some new hubs to be picky. Out of the spares I have I think the front arms are standard XX and the rears are CR.
I have some new titanium turnbuckles in blue, also some new RPM rod ends in both blue and black but think I'll go for black as the blue will be too much blue!
Will have to try all 3 transmissions and see how they are for wear although the CR feels the best from a little playing about.

Re: Project XX
Oh can someone tell me why they changed the front shock tower for the Kinwald? I'll probably grab a fibrelyte one as they still do them.

Re: Project XX
Looks like a good haul of cars/parts Certainly plenty to get you building a nice runner & maybe a best one for show?oldrc wrote:Oh can someone tell me why they changed the front shock tower for the Kinwald? I'll probably grab a fibrelyte one as they still do them.
I think the difference between the shock towers is more the shape - I think the remaining holes in the Kinwald style tower do match up with the holes in the original style one... but they've done away with the holes that nobody used, so was able to streamline the profile. BTW the shell that came supplied with the Kinwald car is the 'Xcellerator' which is the type that (I think) is shown in your first photo.... the CR shell is much more boxy in its appearance

Re: Project XX
Both look to be in good shape, nice find. The Kinwald looks very clean indeed and makes me want to build mine up soon!

Re: Project XX
I cant watch this thread anymore as I happen to know where they came from and 1 of them sat on the shelf at certian persons house, lovingly cared for. They may have been built by someone on here maybe, possibly.

Re: Project XX
The ONLY shock tower to have is the Trinity graphite blue flake one, right Dan?oldrc wrote:Oh can someone tell me why they changed the front shock tower for the Kinwald? I'll probably grab a fibrelyte one as they still do them.
