Thanks Jason means alot, really pleased with the build and the end result of a race win beating those rubbish RC10's! Only kidding guys!

Well was stripping out Nathan's brushless gear out of it and giving a clean up ready for the shelf and couldn't resist putting on the Cougar 2 front tower and the works front arms, all spaced out for the AE shocks, so she is ready for action when duty calls! Lol

hiya all. a massive thank you to mark for all his help on this project just for his ideas and enthusiasm through all of this. (ended up taking the vintage race more serious than the oople race so i didnt let him down lol) have to say we got the win due to a very gentlemanly Dan Greenwood who very sportingly waited for myself and northy after we were both raped by back markers when having a great 3 way battle only to then be pipped at the post by myself and northy. was a great event in all on both the clay and astro and cant wait to get back there next year to defend the cougars honour although we might need a touch more horsepower than a unsensored 10.5 mark as the other boys all had aprox 7.5 in brushless with advance or 13x2 brushed  i almost felt in a stock class in comparison lol

loving the full cougar 2 front end will defo be a good edition for next year. lets hope we can stop the belt skip for then as well

thanks to all for following the thread. it will be reborn for next year and team Ralls Racing "Niggling" will continue. you never know mark might even have to race himeself alongside me next year so get building a second car buddy

Hey Nathan,
we should get JP to do a vintage class at the EIR too.
(That way I won't be the only one driving a vintage car again ;) )

And welcome to the forum!

Hi Guys, long time no updates !

Just had a message from Nathan to get the Rae winner dusted off and ready for this years oople vintage race.

As you can see from the pics above its sporting its new front end which I hope will be an improvement over the cougar 1 front end? Any feed back appreciated.....

At last years race Nathan said he had a bit of belt slip, how can we sort this out?? Tighter belt obviously or maybe make a tensioner?

Or could I use a geared gearbox?? Was the works 2 a geared gearbox?? Could I adapt a club 10 mk1 gearbox with my slipper??

Glad to see this thread being updated.

As for the belt slipping, check all the pulleys for wear especially the top one. If it were me I'd replace the top pulley and belt with brand new ones. Tension is made via the gearbox eccentric mounts.

Yes nice to be back 8)

I'll get the box apart, I have a new belt in my box but no pulleys, can these be bought new from Schumacher??

Nathan used a 10.5 with some boost last year and will aim to go with the same set up, unless the belt box can take any faster motors?

I'm thinking of taking it to the next level with sch cougar sv big bores and a powder coat chassis and shorty lipo...the RC10.2 thread has inspired me!

The standard rear end and C2 front give a very short wheelbase by today's standards. I found that works rear end and C1 front gave a wheelbase about 3-4mm longer than a modern day SV2, making it more stable. I'm sure Nathan has much sharper reflexes than me though, so this may not be a problem!

I just wanted to say thanks for posting so much detailed info about this.

With the news of the upcoming RC-10 re-release generating some more interest in retro racing, I was looking around for something NOT RC-10 to build to race against them.

So, after reading all about your Cougar, I had a look in my Schumacher parts box, and I've got nearly all the parts I would need to build a similar spec one to yours.

So, thanks for the inspiration !!

Stu

No problems Stu! Glad you enjoyed the thread and good luck with your build, get some pics up on here

Cheers for the info Groomii on the WB using the different front ends, may put the C1 arms on again?

Bought a Cat SX for £25 to rob the shocks from, will update soon when the build starts

If you've got enough parts you could do what I do and have two complete front ends built up. It's then a 2min job to swap them over during practice so you can test both options back-to-back.

Assuming it's racing on Astro again, getting some works rear wishbones and hub carriers would reduce the weight overhang. BossCat Works item are the same as Cougar Works if you can find them.

Hey Groomi,
Good idea
I got quite a lot of C2 parts, including a works pecan gear cover, that are all still brand new,
So I think building a few option parts like you suggest would be a good idea.

Also, I did speak to Stephen at FibreLyte about C2 carbon tubs.
They 'might' get around to making more one day.
Perhaps if enough of us ask ....... :)

That should say lexan, not autocorrected pecan....

Question.
I went through my C2 parts, and I'm almost ready to do my build, but should we piggyback onto this thread or start another one.
