An update on the 2013 spec Cougar 2 Racer

Lipo tray drilled and C/S to chassis.

Next jobs are to fit Schumacher pro black ball cups and maybe swap out turnbuckles to ti ones , hopefully get a Bugle gear cover then fit the motor and esc, then it'll be off to Ralls Racing for a shake down run ready to beat the pesky RC10's! ;)

Ba-Bling! 8) 8) Looking good, those shocks must be smoother than the original Varishocks that would have come on the car! I presume they are the same design as the big-bore versions?

Cheers Dan, yes it's a bit of a bling machine now but with battle scars so all good in my eyes!

Yes the shocks are great, built up really well and nice and smooth! Looking forward to seeing it on track.

Last update for a bit - fitted new Trf turnbuckles (had them in spares box) with new schumacher ball studs all round the can and added new pro ball cups off the mi touring car range, man these things are tight and certainly not going to come off in a race, you need pliers to put them on!

So final update before the car is off to Ralls Racing for brushless install and set up.

Nathan called me and said he was having belt slip issues at last years meeting (10.5 motor) so with some help from Alex (incredible serious) on here stepped in with a Cougar club 10 mk2 geared gearbox at a great price with some extras to boot, cheers mate.

So the plan for this years oople vintage race is a 8.5 or 7.5, this race is getting serious! Lol

I'll keep you posted on testing/oople vintage race, let's hope we can bring back another trophy!

I got some new pics of mine to upload, but I'm really thinking the geared gearbox is something I need in mine.
I'm running 13.5 for now, I wonder how much more motor the chassis would handle though.
I'm also running a shorty pack in mine, so I think maybe I'll have to add some lead.

looks awesome !!

Thanks for the nice comments guys!

Stu I'll let you know how the gearbox handles a 7.5 or 8.5 motor, shame it's not got a slipper but I'm sure Nathan will cope with it

I'll try and get some pics/video of testing

If you feel like the disassembly of both gearboxes, the Slipper layshaft from your Works gearbox should drop right in.....

This seems like a strange step you've taken. The belt drive 'box 'should' be strong enough if well adjusted and I would imagine the slipper clutch is vitally important with a powerful motor. Also, the club10 transmission will position the diff further forwards than the works transmission, meaning the driveshafts are angled backwards causing premature wear and dynamic squat.

Personally I'd put a new belt in the works transmission if you're worried, make sure the diff is good and strong and adjust the slipper carefully.

Some good points guys, will try the gearbox out to see how it copes, good news about being able to use the works slipper on the club 10 gearbox.

I'll let Nathan give it a run as it is with the club 10 box, the works belt gearbox is built up and will be an easy swap trackside.

Is the motor mount plate plastic on the MK2 Club 10 gearbox? That would be another reason for me to stick with the 'Works' gearbox - those side plates make for a good heatsink & a stable mounting face for the motor.

I can remember running low wind motors like 12 & 11 turns in my Cougar 1 & having no problems with belts slipping - & having recently put together some of my own old brushed race electrics (Corally 11x3t motor) & given them a run, i'm suprised how close in performance it is to my current brushless set-up (7.5t X20 LRP).... so with something like an 8.5 in the Cougar i'm sure it would be fine on the original transmission?

Great work though & keep us posted with your future developments, findings & results 8)
