I was able to find this NIP Duratrax engine heatsink backplate. It is a cool piece, that replaces the stock engine back plate. Can anyone tell me if it would be more vintage correct on a Turbo Inferno build, or this Turbo Burns? I am torn over installing it on this car, or holding it for my planned Inferno build. Thanks for your input.

Hi, thought I would post a few pics of my TB build.
I was inspired by this thread, it’s taken about 6 months to get to this stage. No where near Lavignas TB, but not too shabby.

Now with the body shell trimmed, ready for paint.
Can’t decide between box art, or Yuchi Kanai colours.

Wow! Great looking buggy. Looks very clean. I can see you have put in a ton of work. Thanks for posting. I can't wait to see it with some paint.

Hi lavigna, thanks for your comments, it means a great deal to me. I’m restoring a mp777 at the same time, it’s at the same stage, so I keep flitting between the two at the moment. I masked up the 777 shell last night.
How is your TB doing?, have you painted the body yet? If so, are you going box art? Looks like a tricky masking task.

Thanks again. Glad I could provide some incentive to your TB build. I studied your pictures closely, and I can tell you have put in a lot of time and effort. You have a very clean buggy, and a fine example. Please post more pictures if you can. You need to make a build thread for the mp777. I love looking at people's builds, and it is great to look back at all the work you put in. I forces you do document your build, and having those pictures and information is great to have down the road.

No real progress on my TB since my last update here. My to do list is quite short however, which is nice. It still needs:

- Paint - I am going to paint the stock body box art colors, and the Marwan body something else. Not sure what yet, which is the main hold.
- BSW19 steel spur gear
- Duratrax fiber center brake disc
- Fit a filter on the intake
- Find one more BSW1 piece for a decent price.

I have started hunting and gathering Turbo Inferno pieces. That will be my next Kyosho build. I am currently working on a Composite Craft RC10T. It has taken much of my time and resources lately. Once I finish it up, I will be focusing more on Inferno sourcing. I actually plan to start my Inferno build thread soon, to keep me motivated. Thanks again.

My trip down the Kyosho parts discrepancies rabbit hole continues.

Pictured below are 4 pieces, all BSW1. Two of them I received NIB (never opened, I checked very closely) and the other two are a new loose set that came with two new BSW2s. All four are indeed BSW1 pieces, but the differences between them is surprising.

The machining and finish is best on the piece that came from the Red packaging. It has the cleanest machining, cleanest teeth, a smaller diameter hole on the top, and the nicest black finish. However, it is significantly shorter than the other 3 pieces. I don't yet know if this will present a problem for installation. The other 3 are all very similar to each other, but the piece from the blue package has a significantly lighter color.

The below photos show the 2 loose pieces to the left, then the piece from the red packaging, and then the blue. Maybe someone can chime in and let me know if they have seen this sort of thing before, or shed any light on if what I have here is the norm for Kyosho.

I'm not expert in Kyosho but the height differenc is in the bevel gear teeth not the shaft , is there a difference in the size of the teeth on the crown gear also ? Maybe it was changed to get greater gear engagement , my gut is telling me the blue packaged one is a later manufactured part so might be an upgraded design , pity about the machining quality going down though.
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

Hi guys! Nice looking buggies!

I bought my Burns in 1988 and eventually turned in to a Turbo Burns and I've been running it ever since.
I even raced it with an OS RX-B in 2008!
Of course I've found most if not all of kyoshos optional parts, including the super rare bsw50 shock tower and the hardened chassis (I have two of those).

I have one question for starters though. There's a rather large tab with a hole in it, coming out from the side of the front of the rear bulk head. It's on the Turbo burns but was not on the same part on the original Burns. Has anyone wondered what that large tab is?

Oh and by the way... The original gears on the burns diff, have never ever failed on me. I drive on the conservative side, but still.

Good question Dmitry. I have wondered the reason for that part as well. Unfortunately I have no answer for you.

Anyone else?

I seem to remember another belt driven kyosho buggy of that era that had a tab like that one and it accommodated the end of a differential. Perhaps they had an open ended blan B, but it didn't happen for the T.Burns.

Or maybe they thought the diff box could be used on another buggy. Or maybe someone just f'ed up and machined the wrong mold. Who knows...

Oh, and the red packaging is the latest and came after the blue one. The black ones I think were optional parts but i'm not sure.

If You mean shaft driven? Then there´s the Rampage GP10, Ford RS200, Peg 405 etc, having the bearing retainer for the center diff/spur.

Yep, this one seems to have a small belt and a long white shaft. I guess this configuration would allow for a 2wd version with amore centered engine.
