Hi

Does anyone now what the engine is on the right hand side of this photo?

I've been given an old buggy which ive found out is an kyosho burns 4wd turbo. Its in a bad state.
I'm not looking to restore it to new but I do want to tidy it up and get it going to near original.

The chassis has 2 positions I can mount the rear gearbox to the chassis to extend the wheel base but in the manual the burns 4wd turbo has only 1 position... does that mean someone made a new chassis??

It has loads of spares, including some SPANKY carbon fibre front and rear suspension mounting plates! it must have been quite the machine back in the day.

two engines in the box which are both in parts. O.S 21 EX and the other which i hope someone knows what it is.

The O.S has a broken conrod and some damage to the actualy crank case. Ive found a new rod and actually found a brand new crank case which was so cheap i had to get it.

Thanks.

It's a Mondial Motor - Made by OPS in Italy in the 80's/90's. Ron Paris used to prepare some OPS's bitd.

There is an official "what is it" thread here - better to post there than all over the forum: https://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=14461

Very nice find, this Burns with all the gear :)

Hey

I cant find ANY parts for the OPS engine at all. So if i was to replace it with a modern engine of today can you suggest what it would be?

Thanks again!

That's a pretty vast question you're asking here

Even if I was still involved into 8th IC, I'd be struggling to answer it... this is a vintage buggy, if you're planning on running it, don't buy a thoroughbred race engine, but a somewhat detuned version instead, so you can baby that old car around the track. If this is for shelving it, I'd keep that MM, because it's correct from a period standpoint :P

Sorry I can't be of more help here :(

haha its not going to sit in a shelf... I want to have some fun with it!

So what you are saying is something like https://www.ebay.com/itm/O-S-MAX-21-VG-NITRO-RC-CAR-AIRPLANE-ENGINE/222335533558?hash=item33c43b01f6:g:PsUAAOSw6DtYRHa1 is going to be more than enough for me to thrash it around the garden...

thanks

What I'm saying is, just don't put too hot an engine in this old lady - any entry-level mill from 2018 is much faster than most top-of-the-line engine from the 80's! This is not even considering that your plastics are older than they should be to withstand a lot of power anyway. You don't do an LS swap in a C4... :)

Having said that, and having run 8th IC myself in the past, I would definitely recommend against buying a used mill for sure, unless they are from a well known racer or someone who takes excellent care of their stuff...

Good luck :)

ok thanks... so a new entry level engine will be just the ticket then.

Will keep you updated!

My next questions will be about the radio gear. Stay tuned!
