Mr. ED wrote:highwayracer once told us he press-fitted 8x4 mm bearings in rc10 front hubs to use on his ultima. So I guess you could also pres-fit 8X5 mm bearings in them so they'd work on the stock 5mm axle of the trx-1
I just made a little calculation and the B4 rims won't work with 8mm bearings : 3/8 inch is about 9.5 mm. Highwayracer must have been talking about earlier rc10 wheels.

yeah, they would have to be. 5/16" is a couple thousandths smaller than 8mm.

Ya I grabbed a pair of B4 rims and they don't work

I wonder why Scott would run this setup in the first place? Either way I'm sticking strickly to copying the 92 Nats car. All I really have to do is find a Losi belcrank and I'm going to be close to done. Then its just a matter of finding a body or cleaning the paint off mine and re-spray.

I'll be working on the car this week (I got some goodies coming in the mail) so I should have updated pics soon.

Losi aluminum axles are probably what he used to fit AE wheels.

I wonder if the losi - ae front axles fit without modifications....

Is there anymore info on the '92 nats car apart from this thread?

most likely not: both are imperial while the traxxas car is metrical

3mm vs 1/8" pins is about .006", so a quick ream of any of the suspension parts would allow for the standard(1/8") pins to work quite easily. the traxxas parts are very similar to the losi and associated stuff, I have switched back and forth between various parts, so it's not a huge modification.

I see; you meant replacing the upright and steering knuckles too, not just the axle.
Anyway; weren't the asso front wheels at that time using 5/16" bearings? In that case converting to those wheels was as simple as buying 4 5x8mm bearings

the 2.1 three piece rims used a 3/16 x 3/8 plain bearing.

i have a feeling he just used losi axles and steering knuckles on the front. with the size of the front nylon wheel nut, they'd HAVE to be losi axles....... i would think.

But his knuckles are white, not black (I though losi's were black?)

the one color pic that cedric supplied, they look black to me. possibly the castor blocks, too.

but if you wanted to have them white, try to find a pair of the newer style rc10 inline steering knuckles (in white) for the aluminum inline axle (round end, not hexed). then simply use the losi axles. you will have to enlarge the knuckle slightly where the axle goes in. the losi axles diameter is just a tad larger.

take a look at cedric's kinwald worlds replica. he had to do the same thing on that.

On the pics in page 2 of the world prototype Trx1, we can see black parts, caster block and steering knuckles from Losi...for me.

All rather interesting. It does seem like a lot of effort just to use AE wheels. Unless the losi knuckle/axle is a simple affair.
