Can I call it a Blue Eagle?

Post by GoMachV »

So- I have a original Eagle with the painted chassis on the shelf already- and then I found this slightly different chassis. It was obviously a truck at one time as the price tag is still on it. It has the extra holes for the Pro trans that the early Eagle chassis didn't have. I conclude it must be a Blue Eagle? I decided to put the long LS rear arms on it, which I probably shouldn't have. I'm pretty certain the LS would have never came with the painted chassis. Can anyone confirm the painted chassis was around for the Blue Eagle?

While your here...if anyone has a set of body mounts and gear cover let me know

I'm pretty sure there was an early/late deal with the blue eagle chassis. Somewhere in the run they switched to the standard one from the LS.

I also don't think LS arms are correct for this truck. Could be wrong though...

I'm sure your right about the LS arms. Chassis is way too early for those. The early/late thing makes sense, as I sure didn't remember the chassis on my BE bitd being painted

When did the TRX-1 come out? That could maybe be the timeline for the swap. Pretty sure they're the same chassis?

Not sure if it is, (edit...at the very least the TRX1 is narrower up front) but it would make sense...rcca reviewed the Blue Eagle in Sept '91 and the TRX-1 in Feb '92 meaning your timeline would make sense. Oct '92 brought the LS. I think I will leave the LS suspension on it as a era correct update. It would seem reasonable as the upgrades were within a year

yeah, 90-91.

blue eagle definitely had the painted chassis. I have one that I got as a hulk project with blue motor plate, missing a bunch of stuff. I'll show you some pictures later.

I used black parts to get it back together, gear cover, rear arms, body mount, and went with the newer one piece white wheels. the paint was really ugly on it so I stripped it with acetone and gave it a fresh coat on black semigloss. I gotta look in my threads, I'm sure I have some pictures on here already. rc10 battery box fits fine as well.

bummer.....traxxas website is all changed up again.....no legacy model stuff I can find.

fortunately for you, I have both eagle pdf files pulled from their site when i knew they would f it up again. strangely, the eagle and blue eagle LS are the sheets I have, but no 'blue eagle'. models 1902 and 1903. the eagle parts list show some blue eagle parts I think.

PM me your email, I can't attache PDF files it appears.

Ok here's the deal, after the Blue Eagle trans came out, Eagle owners could turn in their old tranny and get a discount towards the new pro trans conversion. Came with a template to drill the glitter chassis and the trans, motor plate, etc. Shortly after that they came out with the LS conversion kit that came with F / R dished wheels, long drive shafts and rear arms. So if anything you could say it is an Eagle with those factory conversions on it. But gold shocks would make it more correct in this scenario. Thant was the progression of my Eagle bitd. The Blue Eagle chassis is slightly longer than the TRX-1 chassis as well.

Looking at the rcca article I think Jason is correct about the first Blue Eagles having the glitter chassis (oh cool it has a name! Haha)

This chassis has a $250 price tag on it so I'm pretty sure it was built from kit not upgraded- but I could be wrong.

The direction I'm headed is basically what you said- an updated Blue Eagle. I have a standard Eagle so I didn't want to go that route again

Yeah I have a set of the proper rear arms but the proper wheels for that offset were gonna kick my butt which is why I did the LS arms. I'll just consider it a Blue Eagle with the LS conversion kit on it, as a popular upgrade path. If I stick with the upgraded path, I have a pair of new A&L dogbones for the LS rear that I might throw on it too.

Continuing the theme of bringing up old threads ......................

I can confirm the existence of another Blue Eagle with Bullet style chassis, just as shown by GoMachV and RCCA Sept. '91. Also missing body mounts. :D Why were people even taking these things off?
