TRX-1 Ready for Refurb

Post by jkelm24 »

Picked up this TRX-1 over the summer. The 2WD collection is nearly complete!

The diff and shocks are dry and tires are cracked. But, it's in good shape and should clean up well. The bottom deck has only a couple minor skuffs and looks like it was only run a handful of times before landing in someone's garage for 20 years.

Hey that's super rad dude. That'll clean up rrrrreal nice. What were you thinking about doing with it? Refurb and shelf yeah? They are fun to run but those white front end parts are super hard to find. Wow that's awesome. Wheels and all and with the red super whip antenna. Yellow cap for it too? What about that damn square rubber rear body mount pad? Did it come with the battery hold down? I want another one now . Deeeeeaaaamn. Ok then. Happy refurbing!
Hope you're doin' something fun.

This one will end up on the shelf with the rest of the '92 2WD collection. It's the final piece to the collection, unless I try to continue hunting for the nearly-impossible-to-find Cougar 2 Works.

http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=28956

Pulled it all apart yesterday afternoon and found everything in pretty good shape. The bottom of the chassis deck has some light scuffs and a couple scratches, and should clean up with some Mother's polish. The turnbuckes and hardware are lightly rusted, but fortunately Traxxas hasn't really changed much in the past 20 years and are still selling all the turn buckles and hardware. The diff is dry, but all of the gears and bearings are in great shape.

The front bumper is lightly scuffed, but there are no gouges or deep scratches. The rest of the white parts are in good shape and should look nearly as good as new with some peroxide and UV treatment.

This one didn't have the antenna cap or rear body mount pad. I thought I still had one laying around from my old Nitro Hawk, but I must have thrown them in the box when I sold/shipped it.

Going for box art on this one too. Body arrived from TBG a few days ago. I'm thinking about ordering some decals from MCI and having them change the blue die to green instead so I can pull off the box look (box has green letters, but production decal sheet changed to blue letters).

Has anyone ordered the TRX1 decal sheet from MCI? If so, how did they turn out?

HAven't ordered that one from MCI yet... worst case, you've lost a very reasonable amount of money, so go for it.

Ha... cougar II works... snatched one up here many moons ago... rare as a hen's teeth... :)

MCI puts out good stuff, I've used their stickers on a few projects.

So, what happens with the parts you replace?
I'm not soliciting, just curious.
It's a question which comes up in my head every time when I see a nice starter car and fresh heaps of parts.

in my workshop, it turns into another car, which is almost as nice with just a few more parts I need to purchase. And then....you have more than 20 cars......

Most of my used parts end up in the bone yard under the workbench. I have bags of old 'runner' parts from the cars that have landed on the shelf. At some point, I'll likely move them on to someone who can use them.

Transmission went together well. I really like the old Traxxas ball diffs. They're a 'bit bulky, but very smooth and easy to adjust.

I think I'll call it quits for the day... it's starting to look like a TRX1 again.
