Clodzilla 2 question.

Post by vintagercer »

I was lucky enough to find a Clodzilla 2 on the bay in my price range. Long story short it has a Large scale Futaba 1/5th steering servo in it and and it wont turn the wheels?. Just the axles move...Is the servo pooched?...1st time with a clod/1/5th servo and help would be greatly appreciated!.

Let’s see how it’s set up. Specifically any servo savers or bellcranks.

I’d first get rid of the servo savers. Lock em up or replace with aftermarket. With a 1/4 scale servo they aren’t needed. The next thing I would look at is the throw. That horn might not be allowing full movement. A longer horn, especially for the front steering side, should help. Don’t make it longer than it needs to be, as you then loose torque. Kimbrough makes some excellent servo horns for this.

not sure how you are checking if the wheels aren't turning, but most of the time, a clod doesn't look like it will turn the wheels when on the ground sitting still, it's only until you start moving that the wheels will turn a lot. And usually, the rear wheels will turn more moving forward, and the front will turn more in reverse.

This seems to be a major theme in my life as well.

I run a clodzilla II chassis in my clod. I really like it for its simplicity and retro look. Once you overcome the complications as outlined by tamiyadan, it can be a descent chassis. Also, if you remove the center mounted single servo, that location can become a great place to mount the battery. Keeps the center of gravity very low. 8)

Bit of an update. I swapped out the large scale servo for a normal size 645MG...The large scale servo was shoring out the ESC.......
