So that's what limitless time for mods gives you.
Amazing looking car, barely a Zerda by the time it was finished.
Cool as.

It would be really interesting to see how this one ran. It looks like it would have really low roll centers, going by the look
of the camber links..

Very cool mods tho..

Did you take the recent ones? I ripped them from RC Tech.

Here's mine. Completely standard other than being fitted with a Yokomo 05R. One of my luckier finds at a toy fair a couple of years ago. Got it for a great price and it came with it's box, manual and paperwork. :D

Very nice!

That's exactly the same as my first one I had in 1984, before I modded it with mid motor drive and Kyosho shocks.

Pulled my Zerda out for some work tonight. The last time I drove it I had issues with the rear stub axle and bearing working their way loose of the hub and the whole assembly (and wheel) falling off and losing the dog bone. The standard set up with a couple of small screw trying to retain the bearing wasn't going to cut it.
So, I have been thinking of making up these little retaining plates from 1.6mm fibreglass sheet. Basically knocked up with my dremil in around an hour. I drilled the hubs right through and fitted longer screws to assist with keeping the plates in place.
I hope to make it to a track this week for some testing. I am confident these will do the job.

What I find with my Zerda is that the rear end brakes traction a little too easily under power for my liking. Sure, mid mounting the motor might help with that but but I'm also thinking about moving the weight of the battery around to see what effect this has on the handling characteristics of the Zerda. Looking through some old images of Zerda's that were modded for racing I see a common trend in adjusting battery location.
Has anyone here had a play with this out on a race track?

Nice hex mod, Jason. Also like those wheels & tires. I have a full set of those Turbo Optima wheels & exact same cone-spike tires, I've had them since the 80's. I was wondering what tires those were? I could've sworn they were for the Optima series, but now I'm not so sure because I've never seen Turbo Optima tires on eBay with cone spikes. All I know is they fit the T.O. wheels perfectly. Maybe you can solve the riddle?

The Zerda was my 2nd offroad car overall and the first 4WD. Actually used the RC10 at some tracks and the Zerda just at very slippery ones. My Zerda never hit the track in kit configuration, from the beginning I was converting the drivetrain to gear drive layshaft and mid motor. Also shocks were changed for RC10 shocks. Roll cage also was replaced with a usual offroad body. It´s just the chassis was a little on the soft side then causing belt twisting several times at bumpy tracks.

Of course the Zerda is a rare car today, but from what I remember I didn´t race this car very much. As soon as the Optima was out, this was the replacement then and served me really good with winning lots of races.

Anyway, bought some parts for the Zerda in case there is one showing up, but maybe the parts also will go away again.

Marc the tyres are Eagle brand and a basic knock off of tamiya cone spikes as found on the old Super Shot. Very old skool and I really like em.
