Marui Samurai build

Post by eugine »

Hello

First sorry for the English but I am French :)

This is my first thread on RC10Talk and I choosen to present you my Samurai build.

I bought 2 models plus some NIP parts as some where weared on both :(

Here we go :

Polishing the FWD plate

Image

The shocks are long to polish as there are many corners

Image

As per manual I started with FWD diff with some NIP parts

Image

The FWD diff is NIP

Done but something is missing between FWD and rear :)

Previous diff is cracked near little black scerws. Do not tighten a lot.

It will stay on a shelf as it is very weak but I put a correct era option: ball bearings :)

Image

FWD is done :smoke:

Image

It is not so easy to build the FWD as there are a lot of parts going into others.

Almost finished with genuine mechanical speed controller and associated lots of wires :)
The two halves chassis are NIP as all were broken at shocks or rear diff attachements.

The driver:

I couldn't install the BIGGG ACOMS receiver and the driver. Maybe that's why the driver was not there when I bought the buggy.

Instead of doing 100% box art I added a touch of green.

It is was a very nice model produced by Marui. One of the most beautiful of RC in my opinion with the Scorpion and the Javelin

I hope you will like it also.
See ya...

Nice restoration. I've always liked the Samurai, the proportions just seemed correct to my eyes, like the Javelin. (*Not* like the Hotshot or Galaxy!) I also always liked the slotted wheels; my 1970 Charger had similar slotted mags when I first bought it as a 19-year-old...WAY too many years ago...
Completed projects: CYANide Onroad Optima | Zebra Gold Optima | Barney Optima | OptiMutt RWD Mid
Gallery - Coel's Stalls: Marui Galaxy & Shogun Resto-Mods | FrankenBuff AYK Buffalo | 1987 Buick GNX RC12L3

The same for me Coelacanth. It is so close to a static model! It was a time where esthetics was more important than aerodynamic performances. Now some models are really awfull in my taste like those with fwd driver cabin.

Such a beautiful car , well done , it's a pity it's shelf bound but in this case I understand , such a shame they were so fragile , I always loved how they looked but never saw one in the flesh.
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

In reality I couldn't help running it before the build. It ran pretty good on a flat but sliperry surface. But it has tons of understeering. Maybe that's why also it couldn't face to Optimas.

He he glad to hear that we are all human and find it hard to resist at least one drive  . I think the Optima was a step ahead in design , I raced against one a lot bitd with my very modded Hot Shot , apart from the chain stretching or being knocked out of adjustment I had a very hard time of it , strangely chatting with the driver recently he was envious of the shaft drive on the Hot Shot being so reliable and he dreaded the constant chain tinkering the Optima needed so it's all perspective I guess.

Very cool car!

When I was a young boy, I got a Samurai in a lot of RC stuff I bought. It was not complete and after a while I ended up throwing it away! That’s one of two dumb RC moves I remember doing over the years. The other was throwing away an original Kyosho Javelin orange roll cage.

Chouette caisse!

The samurai was quite breakthrough at the time, the lightest car on the market!

And those rims were the nicest ever done...

Well done!
