Great Vigor Beagle....lives again
Clearing the loft on a dark and dismal day. Discovered the son's old rc stuff. A Beagle and a less than complete Hirobo Zerda.
The Beagle is still running pretty much 'out of the box' after a battery charge.
The bodyshell is the worse for ware, I don't think my son had it from new, buying second hand from a friend. It has the original wheels but having replaced them with wider rimmed ones the steering lock is increased and it turns on a sixpence. Maybe the chain drive jumps a bit, not the easiest thing to tighten up but on the 'to do' list.
I see one just changed hands for about 150 on ebay. Anyway this one's giving a bit of tinkering pleasure again. All old acoms rc gear. But have had to put some 2.4ghz in the zerda.
Perhaps some of you enthusiasts will like the pics. Now I'm indulging in a bit of desktop mechanics.
the stripe is just insulating tape, to cover a couple of splits and add a 'go faster' stripe!

Those are Kyosho Optima clones aren't they ? Looking like it's in good condition.
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

yes, it's an optima-ish clone... but the optima was of much higher quality.
I was watching that one on ebay a couple of years ago... it sold for indeed $150-ish
oh well
anyway - when it's a family relic, it's different and so much more cooler indeed !

Re: Great Vigor Beagle....lives again
I'll take some more pics in daylight. had to scrape off the remains of some adhesive from decals. If I can't find some suitable ones I'll print some on adhesive vinyl paper. You can see the front of the bodyshell is missing and the back is held on by more insulating tape for the time being. I guess some replacement decals will also act as repair patches for the shell. God knows where they get the prices for shells from, its the same stuff they make packaging out of as far as I can see.
I'm wondering what's involved in a timing belt conversion but it'll have to wait for a dismantle opportunity. Probably impossible to get parts now but I don't know what the pinions look like for chain as compared to belt drive ones.
I do have the manual if anyone wants a scan of it. Similar problem with the wheel spacers as with Zerda, not quite the same 12mm hex fitting as mainstream so had to use some washers to pack out the new wheels. but worth it with the improved steering lock. maybe this pick shows how the bigger rims go around the hubs. I'll refit an original wheel to see exactly where the difference is.

Oh, I also sent my sticker sheet to mci racing, so there will be reproductions there too!
I would love a copy of the manual. Mine was water soaked and the pages were all glued together

Wow, I’d let my shelfer go for a lot less than that! I would even trade it for a Sideways nib

Nice try - and I certainly didn't want to pain you... we're just talking a GV beagle after all! Cool, quirky car, but 150GBP... I mean... seriously?

Re: Great Vigor Beagle....lives again
Well I'm a newbie to rc, but looking at prices generally , and cost of parts, 150 ain't bad. It's a heavy to piece of kit, metal frame. Not like all plastic zerda which is up for 1000 in Japan
