They were experimenting with a hard ano back then and only the team drivers had them (caps and bodies). The "team" shocks is what the public ended up with.... with black caps.

and of course, when you are prototyping, you have the design budget, so the whole shock gets hard anodized and teflon coated.

once you get to production, the shock cap doesn't really 'wear' that would require the teflon process, so it was probably cheaper to dye the parts black. cost is king. and ultimately, ending up with plastic caps too.

I’ll definitely drill the antenna holes in the tower. I need to find a red whip. Also still need to swap out my caster blocks.

scr8p wrote: Thu Feb 01, 2018 7:22 am Turning out great. Still need to drill a couple holes in the rear tower for the antenna tube though.

I talked to a place about doing type 3 hard coat clear ano. Sent them a couple shock sets and see how they turn out. Not cheap though....

EDIT: You know, I think this is the closest anyone on the board has actually come to finishing this replica. A lot of guys have tried it.... or said they were anyway. The shocks are the achilles heel, for quite a few replicas of the era.

Getting closer. I believe I’m as done as I can be on the buggy itself.

Now I’m working on the body, collecting as many decals as I can

Lovely looking car, so much work must have gone into it!
I have a tender spot for this pre team car era, that goes from the opps what wrong at the 87 worlds until the release of the team car.
I really like the earlier 88 roar nationals car that Jason has almost finished ;P

I hate to tell you, but that's the wrong body. It is supposed to be the Turbo Mirage, but the first version without the scoop. The scooped versions didn't come out until like '93.

Yeah, I know. The car isn't 100%.

I bought the body already painted on ebay. The back of the body is trimmed a little deep too. The RCHR decals are a bit cut off at the bottom, but it is what it is.

Finished. I know it’s not 100% accurate but I tried my best. What do you guys think?

Absolutely love it.
Great attention to detail and under the circumstances you couldn't get any closer without selling your soul to the devil.
Good Job!
