Are these blocks also used somewhere else perhaps?
Nomad nailed it, those are for cutting the contour as well as the drill jig

Regarding black wire - I know this might not be up to your standards, but a black sharpie does the job very well... and cheap... and without requiring midget-handed soldering skills :)

The body and ball cups arrived alive! Big thanks to Sabula Tech for the crisply pulled body. The outlines are nice, better than most lexan bodies I've bought in the last year. I'm picky about that stuff like that, having worked on HO and 1/24 scale lexan molds. I have already busted out my red Sharpie pen and started marking out a plan for initial cuts.

Updated Information on the SAXOX servo: I bought it direct from SAVOX USA. I'm on the mailing list from them (sign up, it's free) and took advantage of a 15 percent off coupon they had sent me via email. That deal resulted in a cost of 52 bucks and change, free shipping included.
The last two black editions I bought had long, thick sheathed servo lead wires. I replaced them with black TQ Wire leads. This time, it came with a short 3"/75mm lead already installed. Maybe, buying direct, I got the newest version?

Pretty disappointed in associated once again. Friday I got my 7th set of these that came with the wrong shims and pins. Don replied to my request for replacements:

No worries on the shims as long as the correct roll pin is in the package. :|

For shims, I use 0.015" thick from CRC and 0.005" from the AE RC12R5.2.

Tires! I got some Tires!

The steering servo has been mounted and the buggy re-assembled. I dyed the battery cup last night, simmered in RIT Dyemore and left to soak overnight. The Shapeways/CPD white parts take to dye very quickly.

I have some electronics inbound; ESC, RX, and a brushless motor. I'll probably be able to get into doing some installation this coming weekend.

I agree, it does look amazing. Curious to hear your feedback on those tires; on what surfaces do they work best, etc.

those proline hawgs work great on lots of different surfaces. stone, grass, dirt, asphalt, etc. They are fairly tall compared to dedicated clay or carpet tires but they work well otherwise.

You know, I was looking at just that this morning! There are some open holes that could be used

For a shelfer, it's a who-cares, but for a runner, a nose brace or braces is pretty much a requirement.
