91 Detroit Stealth - Composite Craft Chassis & RPM Arms

Post by Mike_48098 »

Well, this is my first post to RC10 talk. I just found this forum, and I'm still soaking it all in. Really great stuff here!
After cleaning the basement, my kids found my old RC stuff. It's been collecting dust for 25+ years. ( I'll have to post what an old Parma Sanyo 1200 SCR pack looks like after all this time. Not pretty! )
Their interest and questions has reignited an old flame. Buying them Traxxas cars for their birthday has only grown that flame.

Anyway, I had an old RC10 car that was almost entirely aftermarket. It loosely resembled the Associated Stealth car that became infamous at the '91 Detroit Race. I'm now trying to return that car into working order.
I had the Composite Craft dual deck graphite chassis and RPM's long A-Arm kits. The last time I raced it, I lost an e-clip on the left rear A-Arm mount and the rod slid back across my motor. It shorted and melted the A-Arm. It's been that way for a quarter of a century now.

I would LOVE to get that car operational again, but I'm having a H-E-Double Hockey Sticks of a time finding those RPM Rear Arms. The RPM kit would be 7079 and just the arms would be 8017.
Does anybody have those parts available for sale? I've scoured eBay, Facebook, etc. without success. I even consulted the guys at RPM, and they told me the mold had been "disposed/recycled".
Potentially dumb (more like desperate) question... Have 3D printers gotten to the point where they can produce viable "plastic" parts yet? Is that an option?

I've hears that these cars still race in a "Vintage" class. What's considered stock with regards to battery / motor for that class? Is it a ROAR class? Is it still 6 cell NiMH? Brushed? Timing / turns?

FYI - I couldn't figure out how to paste in a picture of my car, so I found a similar setup online (not my actual car). Here's the link for reference to that Composite Craft chassis and RPM Arms:

Once I get this A-Arm figured out, I'm likely to ask a whole bunch of other questions about whether its worth it to try running with my old Futaba 2PD AM, or whether I need to buy a bunch of new gear to get the thing running.
Remember glitches! I hear they're dead now. Ha!

Guys have made stock looking arms that fit the rm world's geometry out of printed material. It's not as strong as stock nylon parts.

However, another alternative is made by dynotech racing, they make replacement front and rear arms for the klien Sprint car, which just happens to have an almost identical dimension as the rpm arms. They are machined from flat nylon and are mostly indestructible. $9.00 each, you have to but them individually.

Great tip, thanks! But, it looks like dynotech might be out of business? Their website is closed down. Their Facebook page is untouched since 2016 and their listed phone number wasn’t answered.

Any other substitutes that you know of?

The site was down for a week, and no one picked up the phone either. Maybe they were vacation.

As stated earlier, there are 3d printed options out there, but you will not beat the durability of the Dynotech arms.

The RPM rear Worlds arms do come up for sale quite often, just have to be patient. But 9 times out 10 you will pay some serious money for them. Especially fronts.

Thanks for the investigation. I thought I had lost my mind when the site worked again.

It sounds like I should buy some Klein front arms too? Just in case. I assume the fronts are also similar to RPM Worlds?

Thanks guys!
