Need Help With RC10T I.D.

Post by Basher67 »

I could really use some help with identification with this truck. It's obviously (unless I'm way off) a first gen RC10T. The problem I'm having is in the details. Look closely at the pics. RPM steering bellcranks, HPI cvd's, cabon fiber trans brace. But what's up with the shock towers, short shocks, and foam tires. Also that pink motor has a big pinion on it. Is this just a one-off build for asphalt speed runs? Was this a version of the RC10T? If the shock towers are aftermarket, which I think is most likely, who makes them? Was this a conversion kit? Notice the front brace bars that go through the front shock tower. I've never seen these before and can't find anything like it online. Any help would be appreciated. I want to know what I have before I decide on how to build this one.

This wasn't a factory version of the rc10t. Just someones vision for one.

Not factory shock towers. I have a set like them but couldn't tell you any more about them besides they are aftermarket...maybe Factory Works(?). And yes, the front nose tubes went through the shock towers on these. Wheels and tires are aftermarket foams which I also have a few sets of downstairs in the bins. As far as it goes it looks like a nice rc10t with an AE worlds car stealth carbon fiber brace and a few aftermarket goodies on it. Looks like rpm ball cups, MIP steering for the RC10t, tecnacraft turnbuckles, foams and some lowering shock towers with actual AE universals(not HPI) and AE team shocks which are probably off of a rc10DS. Kinda hard to see the small pix on my phone so guessing there on the DS shocks.

You would be able to tell which model number it is by maybe cracking open the trans and seeing if there are bearings or bushings in it.

The big pinion on that pink can might've been set up for speed runs or someone just through a bunch of parts together to sell a truck. Without talking with the original builder its kinda hard to guess that part. Whoever modded it up though might've added some extra holes in the chassis to turn the steering servo like that. Whats the bottom look like?

Nice truck though...

Thanks for the info. Bottom has some light scratches, but nothing major. I just picked it up for $100. The guy had three of them but this was the only one with these kind of mods. DS parts was what I was thinking when I got it until I looked online and saw the ds has different shock towers. Its really a cool setup. I was missing an RC10T from my collection anyway so it will be a cool version to keep. I'm always after the cool aftermarket vintage stuff. The vintage AE factory stuff is cool but tecnacraft, composite craft, hot trick etc. is what gets me excited.

Not much travel on that suspension setup. You can pick up some standard shock towers and rear shocks for $40. Assuming those cvd's have 3/16" axles you could get some 2.2" ae wheels and trencher t's for $50.
