RC10 Dual Sport Mid-motor Conversion

I would like to convert my RC10 Dual Sport to a mid-motor set-up. However I am at a loss as to how to properly undertake this task. First, where do I drill the holes if I am using a stealth transmission? If I leave the transmission in it's existing location and simply switch it around, my new holes will be right on top of the old holes. Do I need to shift the transmission forward a bit? Second, I have read on this forum that I will need to add a gear. How do I do this?

It is a lot of work, if you are using a stock aluminum tub it will end up looking like Swiss cheese,

If I was to do it again I would start with a graphite chassis without the bulkhead holes and gearbox

holes drilled.

No need to add a gear, just flip the motor plate and topshaft to the other side, then cut off the part of the motor plate that overhangs.

As far as holes go, grab a piece of thin cardboard. Lay it under your chassis and make marks for the suspension mounts, bulkhead, and trans. Ignore the 6 gear holes. Then, flip it around and center it on the suspension mount holes. Centerpunch the stealth holes and bulkhead holes thru the cardboard onto the chassis. Then just drill.

Then you will want to brace things up. Leaves the chassis pretty weak.

What are the "6 gear holes"? I saw reference to this before and that's primarily what threw me off.

I have identified the four(4) suspension mount holes, the two(2) bulkhead mont holes and the four(4) small stealth transmission holes. I assume that the additional four(4) holes are what you are referring to as "6 gear holes".

Wouldn't have to swiss cheese and hack up a tub that way either.

I'm in agreement there, unless the tub is already damaged it's such a waste of a good chassis

I have a brand new RC10 Dual Sport milled chassis but I think that I will just eBay it rather than "swiss cheese" it!

Since I will need a chassis that approximately 40mm longer than stock, I will most likely make my own out of aluminum.

I just wanted to make sure everything was going to fit properly on the stock chassis before I tackled fabricating my own chassis out of aluminum.

Hi Guys,

When I did mine I didn't touch the rear suspension mounts, I used another chassis and put the

two chassis's top to tail, using screws through both suspension mount holes, re-drilled the gearbox

and bulkhead holes.

It would be much better to start with a blank chassis plate.

You do need to use a shorty LiPo or solder up your own Sub C's in a 4 + 2 pack using the stock

length chassis.

What Phinn said, a DS or GT nitro electric conversion also sounds promising.

Do it! I have an old gold pan that I lowered back in the day that we used to road race. But, I can't bring myself to mid-motorize so I'm building a spare/used parts Old is New mid motor car that will remain an off road buggy. I'd love to do a Mid Motor DS if I can find one reasonably priced. lol
