B4 front wheel axle combo

Post by askbob »

Any way to use the older style front axles with B4 front wheels and still get the front width right?

By older axles do you mean the hex ones from the earlier cars? Don't believe so. The gt wide axles with the 6221 knuckles are your best bet.

Yes. Some time ago I had used the RPM old school front steering arms that use the older hex ended axles. Works good with the old front wheels but was thinking there was a CRP wider front hex style axle.

The CRP axles were for the old e-clip style knuckles. And, I think they were all 5mm axles for use with Tamiya wheels.

You could always hex the wide gt axles.

Now that is an idea I haven’t thought about!

I dug around and found the CRP axles. Damn metric crap!
I suppose a guy could have the axle end turned down to work with the proper bearing.

Or use metric bearings with adapters.

You could probably drill out the rpm knuckle to use the gt wide axle too. I'd have to look at one again, but there should be enough meat on there for it to work.

Don't these Tamiya wheels have the same offset as the B4 wheels and use 5mm bearings? If so, they'd probably work with the CRP axles.

I think he's using inline knuckles though.

These are the only RPM steering knuckles that I know of that used hex shaped axles:

Edit: Just found a pic of the #7005 RPM inline knuckles. Didn't realize they used hexes too.

I'd need to find the pics in photobucket, download them and re-upload them here. Using a combo of different sized bearings, you CAN use the B4 front wheels on the original length front axles.

I'll start here in a few minutes....
