UPDATE: RC10CE runner tires

Post by Vodzilla »

First post and an absolute newbie. Always wanted an RC10 as a kid but could not afford one. Got a vintage one from a person who restores them. However, the tires being 20+ years of age started tearing up after several runs. What tires do you use on your runner vintage RC10's? Change wheel/tire combo? I also heard that there's a mod to use modern wheels and tires.

I hope you guys could enlighten me so that I may continue to enjoy this car. Thanks. :D

UPDATE:
So I am looking to purchase inexpensive tires for the JC Racing Wheels for use mainly for running pavement and in the park. I have also recently acquired a RC10B5 with Proline Electrons. Those tires I have almost run down into slicks after a few days from running them at the formerly mentioned surfaces lol. I'd appreciate some recommendation for inexpensive and fairly long lasting 2.2 2WD tires. Thanks. :)

I found this thread which seem to offer hope. Some of the pictures and links are not working anymore though. Maybe someone could shed some light and/or updates.

Then I found this thread which allows the use of modern 2.2 wheels with the stock 1/4 RC10 axles. :)

Hi! I have some of the JC Racing Products wheels for vintage rc10's. They are really nice for the 1/4" rear axles. The modern 2.2 tires that I have tried fit great.

your options to run "small" tires on the stock classic rims are limited by now. AE and JC have stopped their line for the 1.6/1.9 re-re's.

Upgrading to 2.2 wheels is your best bet. if you want to use the AE re-re worlds part, you need to invest into some front are rear plastic/metal parts too. Most info is here. I would quote it by heart if I could, but I can't! https://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=8848&start=180

JC racing wheels are a good solution too - I recall there is a funny with the front wheel but for the life of me I can't remember what it is now

If you want to run rib tires on the front you can find ones usually on eBay too. They will be on wheels or new/lightly used old stock.

I ordered a set last night. Where did you order the bearings for them? Also, I'd like to get metal lock nuts like the one in the picture.

Upgrading the axles is a possibility for me down the future. For now, I wanna see how the JC Racing option works out. Thanks. :)

For now, I ordered the front tires you linked. The rear ones you linked, I will order in the future as needed. Thanks for sharing what would work for my current wheels. Attached is a picture showing my rear wheel, I believe they are 3-piece.

Wow, that was quick. Did you get those from the local hobby shop? Either way, looking good.

I actually ordered them April 25, 2018 Wednesday, a day before I made this thread. A Facebook friend advised me that it'll fit my fronts. I guess I was looking for more options, hence this thread.

Those Schumacher 4-row rear tires scr8p recommended should work well for you. I've found them to be a good all-around dirt and short grass tire (perfect for the backyard). Schumacher also made a "Mini Spike 15x12" (#2002378) that I've found works great on my dirt track when it has become dusty dry-slick. Unfortunately these have been discontinued but you can find them occasionally posted for sale on ebay.
I should also mention that since you're planning to run your car, you probably should replace the plastic knock-off wheel nuts with proper metal nylock nuts. The knock-offs are meant for display; they won't secure the wheel under power.
