Today the post bought me a pair of Zerda axles , a pair of Zerda belts , 8 Zerda track rod ends , a Zerda back to front belt tensioner pulley and a Zerda "spur" pulley.
I really hope the car arrives and was not an eBay scam !

Well not today, but a couple of days ago.

After a looooong wait these two finally turned up. Well chuffed with them, and to round the day off I also got hold of some original Demon decals as well 8)

Today Mr postman delivered a Hirobo Zerda :D looks to be all there and in reasonable shape :D , there's something dragging in the transmition , I'm thinking a seized bearing somewhere in the main belt system , it's been completely ball raced but after 30+ years ....
I'm off out this evening ( if I can claw myself away :( ) but I'll start a refurb thread and pictures tomorrow .

All I today was a sheet of vintage graphite
Jeff, what is the technical difference between this and the modern weave stuff? BITD we call this "Graphite" and the latter weave stuff "Carbon Fibre".

Please share with use your Knowledge :D

besides the physical look I can’t say much, but the strength of the two seems quite similar as well as the weight. Graphite sucks to cut, the little powder that’s left (my vac does great at getting most of it safely away) is hard to clean up without getting everywhere. Carbon cuts differently, not as fine of a dust

I remember composite craft used to do a simple wing with a kick maybe 1mm thick or perhaps less. Buddy of mine crashed the wing splintered, the marshal must have been picking the splinters from his had for days :?

the 'graphite' chassis and 'carbon' chassis are the same material, just woven(or not) differently.

since they are composites, they are layered cloth embedded with an epoxy or polyester as the matrix. the woven material can be a lot of different patterns and stackups, including other materials, not just carbon fiber. the 'plain' weave is call unidirectional, or isotropic, the strength of each layer is in one direction. on a plain weave, usually each layer is turned 90 degrees so if you have like 6 layers, 3 are east-west, 3 are north-south, or even on a 45 degree angle. This is constructed just like plywood.

the 3k weave is woven on each layer and is strong in both orientations, so is generally the latest technology/highest strength. it's easier to cut cleanly with hand tools, the isotropic stuff chips quite easily, where the weave holds the fibers in place.

this link explains quite a number of patterns.
