Fun at the LHS

Post by MelvinsArmy »

Well, not exactly "local" hobby shop. I drove about 40 minutes to get there, but it was worth it. I saw a shop with old stuff up on ebay, and found out it wasn't far away. So, I drove up and came back with this. Not the greatest score in history, but it was fun to pick some old stuff out. 5 degree and 15 degree block carriers in white, antenna kit in white, packs of short gold screws, a cf stealth tranny brace and 3 packs of various Levi Garrett decals, and two 1 1/8 inch Lundsford titanium tie rods to finish off my graphite runner. It's fun to go to a hobby shop that's been around for years and still has some of the old stuff in it. Oh, they had a built, never used Tamiya Ford R150 under the counter too. They wanted $500 for it, I was tempted, but didn't go for it.

Hey Mel, where is this hobby shop at. I know we're not to far from each other. I haven't been able to find any that are worth going to.

It's in Ramsey. I think it's called "Cruzin' with R/C's" or something like that. It's on E. Main, I think it's like 53 E. Main, or real close to that. They've got a lot of stuff, that's for sure. Small space, but it's packed. They only do R/C's and slot cars from what I could tell. Definately worth stopping in.

man i wish i had the time to scope out some hobby shops.

you know that there is some small town someplace where an old fart runnin' a hobby shop has a dealer box full of old rc10s that he'd sell for a song... kinda like the idea of finding some rare musclecar in fantastic shape in some old ladies barn that she lets ya have for free since its taking up space or something.

maybe them days are gone, but its fun to think about.

Nope, not totally gone. They recently found the only US made Shelby Cobra Daytona in some old lady's garage. It's supposed to be the greatest Shelby find of all time. They only made like 6 of them or so, and the rest were all made in Europe. Or something like that, I can't remember all the details. But, imagine coming across something like that. Better than winning the lottery.

I bet there are FINDS to be found. My LHS has a wall full of Juggernaut Blister packs. Everything from Mirror trees, arms, links and chassis plates.

The one thing I did score from him was a Tamiya King Hauler that has been on his shelf for ages. I got it for a cool $200. He still has a chrome fuel tanker NIB but he wants $300. I also saw a few Tiger tanks with price tags of $699

I got my Tiger for $580 shipped from Hong Kong. That's the best place to get them, over ebay from Hong Kong.
