RC12R6 Polished Chassis

Post by tommy911t »

I've got my new R6 dialed. But, I'd love to polish the black chassis and pod to silver. Should I be weary of introducing tweak? Also, are there quick ways to remove the black and blue anno from the parts?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Anodizing can be removed with Easy-Off oven cleaner (the heavy duty stuff with the yellow cap). Spray it on and let it sit for a few minutes, then brush off with a toothbrush. Cheap ano comes off very fast & easy, but good-quality ano might need a longer soak or a few applications. Once the ano is off and you're seeing the bare aluminum, rinse the parts off well with water.

Some parts will have a dark grey/black color after ano removal, but that smut comes off very easily with some wet-sanding and 800 or 1000-grit sandpaper.

If you want a high polish on your raw aluminum, it takes elbow grease and a lot of wet-sanding...start with 400 or 600 grit, then proceed to 800, 1000 and 1500 grit. By that time, the polish will look glossy, almost like chrome. If your parts have scratches and scuffs, start with 400 grit. If they're new and just deanodized, you could start with 600 or even 800 grit and skip a step or two.
