6-Gear Tranny Part Help

Post by NomadRacer »

Is there an alternative to the AE #6627 thrust bearing and washers for the 6-gear diff? I'm having a hard time finding one. The only thing that has come up is from an ebay seller in Canada.

I think you can probably use a 1/8 x 1/4 thrust washer. The only problem you will have to use only half of the teflon bushing on the inside of the diff tube.

A 1/8 x 5/16 will work too...same as the one used for the original Stealth's slipper. That was the size of the thrust bearing in the Jammin Jay Halsey diff kit. Besides cutting the teflon bushing flush with the diff tube gear you have to add two extra washers as spacers. The instructions showing the set-up are in the scan section: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=27920

I think Parma made a 6-gear upgraded thrust bearing kit that were also 1/8 x 5/16, but there were two of them sandwiched between three thrust washers.

So if you were Schumacher you would use that center washer that is sandwiched as a drive to the front of a 4wd car and you would call it a integrator  maybe my mind (and Cecil’s lmfao!) is the only one that sees weird stuff like that

thanks Phin, I KNEW I saw an aftermarket thrust bearing and knew it was a jammin piece, but didn't spend any time searching.

I've never owned any kind of Schumacher so I can't say how it'd work. My concept for a 4wd using a 6-gear turns the outdrive gears into a locked spool (which might or might not involve re-purposing a stub axle), losing an idler, and replacing one of the top drive gears with a sprocket. The diff in the spur becomes a front v. rear wheel diff.

I figure a rear spool isn't as horrible in a 4wd as it is in 2wd, and it'd give off a pretty legitimate built in 1985 vibe.

Thinking about it now though...might it be possible to use a thrust bearing to make a diff between the output gears?

You should grab a look at the xls rere manual. That’s pretty much exactly how the integrator works. The Schumacher diff is in the spur like associated, two belts instead of idlers run down to the output gears (which are outdrives with pulleys on them) with the diff gear driving the front end. Such a weird idea but interesting
