Not Vintage, but a big local race

Post by JK Racing »

I am planning on running the Hot Rod Hobbies 15th annual Shootout this coming weekend.

I have my RC10 CE all ready, been gluing up tires for the past couple days (taking my time). I will be running both expert stock (boosted) and modified buggy (with the same boosted 17.5). The new speedos I purchased are ROAR approved yet, so I cannot run blinky. I decided to put my poor driving skills in front of good drivers, to help slow them down some :)

I will post pics and updates as I can.

I glued up a set of the new Duratrax Persuader tires (TT rear, Duratrax fronts)

well, qualifying is in the books. Goldie is running great, I think I finally have this boosted stock figured out. Not only do you need to boost the poop out of the motor, you need to hit the gearing just right. Found the sweet spot and it is a rocket.

Track is abrasive, the tires above only have a ghost of tread left (rear), fronts are pretty good still.

I ran the blue car, unless I can get this pushing like a dump truck figured out, the OIN build is out.

Eustace & Gil Jr (and many other racers) are swarming over the car as I try to get to the track/get back to the pits.

I am in the E main for 2wd mod (yes, last of the last of the last), but I am in the B main for Expert Stock (boosted). Gonna be a really long day tomorrow, my mains are #20 & #42 :( Add 1 1/2 hour drive each direction, makes for a long day.

if its pushing take away the rear end chassis roll which will force the front to rotate
or go with a softer spring up front which will increase you weight bias on the slow down into the turn
tell eustace i said whats up

than you need to take away SOME rear push/traction
which will give you more steering
or stand your fronts up
or go with a bigger piston hole in the fronts
or lighter weight oil in the fronts
or take away some rear toe
you get the idea
sometimes to fix the front you need to change the rear
or vice versa
good luck bring it home

On my way out this morning...I slept in, LOL.

Done, thinking using the truck tower VS an RPM tower could be part of the issue here

These have been done as well, like I said, I will tune some more, just not at this race.

I am not the best driver, especially when it is over 100 degrees :(

I finished 9th in the B main for expert stock buggy
I finished 10th in the E main for mod buggy.

In both classes I was using the Gold pan, 17.5 motor boosted. For the B main, I had rebuilt the tranny that morning, fresh greases and such. I guess I didnt break in the diff completely, about 2 laps in, it started barking a bit. So I held back to no hurt it (at least in my mind). After marshalling, I re-adjusted it and the slipper and must have hit it perfect for the mod main (almost 3 hours later). I could pull wheelies anywhere and the car was quite fast. If I could drive better and have ice water in my veins, I would have done much better.

Overall, great weekend, I chewed through 3 sets of rear tires, and 2 sets of front tires. Had a blast, but it was way to hot for an old fat guy to be out there for so many hours.
