Novak's Real 1st ESC?

Post by Phin »

I love it when I'm browsing old mag scans for a bit of info and I stumble onto something new to me, that's not even about what I was looking for. While trying to pin point what year Futaba switched to the gold and black labels on their servos I spotted this Novak ESC in the May 1984 issue of Auto RCM.

That is interesting!
Regarding the Associated car.
As the known ESC´s from -85 all have the leads out the side of the case and this out the back..
What about the ESC on the Delta/Bolink?
It has the trimpot's on diagonal over the casing and some what thin leads.

Yup, this ESC was out a year before the Novak 1...which according to there official Timeline was Novak's first ESC.

It's an entirely different design. Not only are the wires out the back, there doesn't appear to be any holes to adjust the brake/neutral pots, and it's using a folded bolt on heatsink for the fets.

Do you mean the car in the top left? That's a Parma Euro Panther and it's using resistor MSC with a wiper arm on a Novak/Bantam Midget servo.

Some more Novak ESCs showing up in 1984 race reports.

1984 (May) Euro Champs. Looks more like an NESC-1 than the ESC in my first post.

1984 (Aug) World Champs. No pics...just a mention.
