Still no further info.... if anybody has any US mags from around this period it would be great if you might be able to dig something out?? It is going to be late '93 or early into '94.

I am assuming you mean this one? She's the one who has to give approval for me spending money on parts, so technically R/C related as well

Well it has taken a while... but the BK finally made it onto the dyno this evening.

I entrusted it to a guy called Glyn Ward who was actually very good friends with Mike Reedy himself and travelled all over with him bitd attending various race meetings. Glyn was very happy to look at this for me, and I know he has an expert eye. He used to build his own motors for his race team; BRM.

He stripped the motor to have a good look but did not want to alter anything and replaced it all exactly as it was following the lightest of skims, same timing, and just straightened one brush spring slightly.

Magnets were bang on so no attention required there. He also made a note of the armature spec and winding wire thickness for future verification. It also has the Reedy-spec wraps below the com to hold the windings in place, although in this case they are notably thinner and neater than any I have ever seen on a Reedy motor previously. Glyn said exactly the same. Extremely tight and thin compared to others we have seen.

Interestingly, he and Mike shared an inductance table indicating wind value spreads and Mike actually gave Glyn a 'baseline' armature with a known inductance to set his instruments with.

The BK Select armature was an exact (and I mean EXACT) match to the one Mike gave to him. Glyn was very surprised.

He has rebuilt around 20 of my motors now, he is the one doing my Igarashi MG on another thread and we always use the Shinwa Motor Dresser for like-for-like comparisons. We have a digital Dyno too for more accurate readings, but by way of a comparison between motors the same set up, including same set of old 2000 cells are always used. Same goes for the Torque Checker.

What we saw with the BK was extremely impressive, with not just one standout number, but a nice mix of very high rpm and strong torque figures, and all with a decent amp draw.

Dresser performance = 51,000rpm at 3.9amps
Torque 1.34kg/cm

I have nothing else revving anywhere near that high with such a high torque figure and tolerable amp draw.

Awesome.

This is definitely one of the best in the era of brushed motors ever out there at the time and considering it was in the 90s?  totally amazed...
