What a silly thing to scam people over. Are any of them members here? If so, what are their usernames? Might as well completely oust them.

Hopefully they're not as they would certainly no longer be welcome of course.

Highly doubt they are members here but never know. From the looks of it they are part of the FB R/C community that joined groups to turn a buck and learned the hobby overnight but claim to have been in it for years. .

ah good thing, when I was in the market for motors, I posted up on facebook what I was looking for. Jaime and Tommy both messaged me. I didnt buy at the time, but they were quite pushy.

Scumbag scammer. I almost didn't catch it. But I could see through the bag that something wasn't right, and that even the bag didn't look right.

The pictures were not close ups, but typically most of us feel that new in the bag is "new in the bag".

It didn't even occur to me this kind of shady crap was going on until this Twister thing happened to me. And it pisses me off to see our hobby and our history (hell, our youth) ruined by scumbags. To me a vintage motor is a nice little nugget of time from my past. A little something that puts a smile on your face.

after this whole thing went down with Jaime, he still hit me up again with some other used up motors... and then tried to sell me a piece of crap, ruined, Parma good times roller for $100... Is this guy blind?

I think the vintage market is still strong and well, awesome! :) But you just have to watch who you're dealing with. I texted Ernie at Trinity about the pink motor and the green ebay motors on ebay...fakes. I suppose a good way to spot fakes is start with qualifying the seller. If they have NO other vintage items and mysteriously have 10-20 unicorns (of anything), that's a sign.

Well said Bob.

They have ruined the trust that new in bag is really new in bag. I have to say tho, it’s great that theifs aren’t smart, as a simple cleaning and you probably wouldn’t had noticed.

Interesting Bob, that I saw this fiasco mentioned by the Admin of another FaceBook group I'm a member of:
It’s been brought to my attention that Tommy Dunn has been rejuvenating used Twister motors and creating new can decals and header cards, repackaging them to create what might look to the untrained eye as new old stock. Please beware any buyer who doesn’t know this and I hope if he or Jaime Lopez-Santini are selling these motors that you are at the very least aware that these motors have very cleverly been made to look new OEM stock.
Jaime's only comment about it was
Not true and situation was rectified with Bob Stormed getting a mod motor he wanted to keep for 5 dollars
.....

And there's an indication of the way things are now.... "I did wrong, I was caught, but I'm totally exonerated because I still managed to squeeze $5 out of my victim".

*SIGH*...

Yea, when it went down, I just hit him up immediately and asked WTH?! He said he would refund (which I didn't believe, honestly). He came back and offered to refund and pay the shipping , refund my money and let me keep a legitimate Twister motor for my discomfort. He offered, I accepted, and by golly, scumbag came through with a refund. NO WAY, did I see that happening.

In a way, it's oddly conflicting. He scammed me (got caught)... but refunded me. That's never happened before. Normally that's the sign of a 'stand-up' guy. That's just still not the case. He stepped in it, BIG TIME. He got called out all over the web for it and I think thought best to refund a few bucks now, hoping to scam some dudes later down the road that weren't as up on the brand.

The real problem is that we are all getting older and this stuff is NOT well documented. Even if you google and find an old forum post, you get excited and then...DENIED, as you see all the images are missing because the servers are all to old or the person that posted has exceeded some bandwidth and image is down. Even when I texted Ernie about the fake motors he wasn't initially as up on it, because they do so much stuff (but he knew the two I pointed out were fakes). Same thing with Fantom. I hit Jeff up about a weird thing, and he also had trouble remembering. In the digital age we are also not doing ourselves any favors. Back in the day we had boxes of photo backups. Now, it seems every time we upgrade an advertising computer here, we don't bring the super old photo files along. The one computer we had before the newer ad computer, has photo examples of manufacturer products going back to 2000 and 2003 with dates and part numbers. We used those in advertising and such. I think we have a very old Mac Quadra with photo files going back potentially into the 1980's. But those had to be photographs we took that were hand scanned in.

Anyway, we're all losing track and I don't see any master repository of information. I was working on it for a while with the museum. But it's just to much information, it's several full time jobs. Imagine, cataloging everything RC made, since just 1980?! every seen anybody on ebay with 40,000 RC items, 100,000 items? That's just current stuff, imagine working that back to find the old stuff where you might sort 10 things a day.

I mean there are little spots here and there. I was looking for a Schumacher car release date recently. Best information for that was wikipedia. Stuff is all over the place and spotty at best. And I'm no help (because I'm not actively posting release dates and organizing old data), so i'm kind of a hypocrite. I know what we are up against here and I have no where to put information. And the old timers keep getting older.

AAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.......... :(

I found a 1980 Associated 1/12 scale Edinger catalog tonight, 10 pages.
What do I do with it? It's an all day job to sort and photograph it properly. So it sits, and the information is not put anywhere. And this is some very useful old stuff with numbers. This was written in late 1979.

Thanks for sharing this info Jeff, and thanks for sharing what happened with your side Bob. This is something that has been going on for a while, but has been becoming more prevalent recently. Months ago, I posted on my facebook brushed motor group that motors for sale with fake labels had to be disclosed, as I was getting some reports that there were fakes circulating. It doesn't appear that this was disclosed for Bob, and others. I'm happy to see that action is being taken on this. I don't know if it can be stopped completely, but getting word out will definitely help.

Regarding the brushed motor group page on Fb; i am aware that Mike Haswell is methodically working through the old magazine (UK editions mainly) and documenting all of the period adverts and release dates. He has added several scans in the Photo album section, and has done the same thing on numerous different Fb pages with suitable content. Car release dates, accessories, electrics and so on. If i have a question about any motors, or pretty much anything RC, Mike is my first point of contact.

I myself have worked through the few items i have from bitd and focused specifically on those. I have a couple of areas of interest which I have researched and know a lot about - mainly based around my old sponsor, so i guess what I am saying is that there are specific 'marque/manufacturer' specialists out there. My main motor passion is MG motors, and I have an entire range of period adverts from them dating from around '82 right through until the early 90's. I am also in touch with the guy who ran the company and have examples of almost all of their motor variations.

The vast majority of the 'cloned' motors involved in this scandal were not really mainstream over in the UK so fortunately not really of any interest to myself.

From what Bob said above I guess the magazines are the main starting point for researching specs and motor details which then enable potential buyers to have a fair crack at working out what is genuine or not. However, if you are up for spending 100's of dollars on a certain motor i would hope you would have done your research and knew what you were buying in the first place.

That said, I am still searching for information, and the few mag articles that i am told exist on the Reedy BK Select....
CAT SWB&XL, Meteor (x3), RC10 custom, RC10 Graphite, Goldpan, 870c (x2), Works 91, Samurai, Pro Radiant (x2), Mini Mustang&Maxima, Mid Turbo, TOP Hybrid , Coyote, Hot Trick Optima, Supercharge, Brimod, 'Rory Cull' Hotshot, SRB.
