Heads up for vintage motor buyers

Post by GoMachV »

Hey guys, some stuff went down today over on Facebook and I wanted to just pass along some caution for those buying on eBay. There is a person selling very expensive “ultra rare vintage” motors that have been confirmed by Ernie Provetti to be fakes. One of this guys friends sold Bob Stormer some nib Twister motors that arrived with reproduction labels, used, and bags with reproduction header cards. I won’t get into names but I will say this- if you buy a motor off eBay and your paying a lot for it, you better examine it when it arrives and make sure it looks the part. These labels were obviously printed as they had a couple streaks in them, had white showing, and were printed on clear backing so the edges didn’t look right.

Scammers, deadbeats, wankers, etc. I had been looking at a few "vintage" brushed motors on eBay, now I won't bother. Best bet is to convince one of the guys on the forum to part with a motor. One can only hope, right?

There are some good guys out there. Sadly one of those “good guys” was outed today as part of this (the one that sold the Twisters) so it is harder to know who to trust. All you can do is buy em and then check them out when you get them.

I heard some info about this yesterday, and it's fair to say that is seems (from what I heard, and what I read here) to be an outright deception. Not good at all to see.

Lucky for me, I don't have the $$$ to consider buying pretty vintage motors.....

P.S. To get in before our Canadian brethren..... was the seller an Antipodean? :P

I bought a reedy mod motor from that guy a while back and the label was definitely a repro and called him on it and he denied it.

Yep and I see a negative and a call out on him for fake labels in January too.

No, those were sold by Jaime to Bob, but the motors and/or the stickers came from Powell from what I have gathered

Tommy Dunn also sells GoolRC motors branded over as “Tommy’s Titty Twisters”. Not that it’s false or anything but they are $9 motors with custom labels.
