Nice pics, I have the keypad speedo Ralf Helbing has pictured. Never seen it in any articles before, I thought it was a cheap copy of the Tekin (most likely is!).

Looks as if it uses RC10 MIP kit parts upfront?

I could try an upload bigger scans but the image size limit is was is being impacted here.
Maybe I will just have a link download for the large pdf file, if one of the mods here can provide an upload spot for it to rest with this forum.

I was asked about that 1st picture on page one so here goes to the best of my recollection:
In that qualifing round, car #6 I believe is Jack Johnson, car #2 is Brian Kinwald, car #7 I believe is Mark Brown from Team Losi but I am not 100% certain; and I am car #10 there 2nd from the end, almost hard to see.

I do remember the track was getting rougher and ripped apart and there was never any maintenance done, plus it sprinkled rain on and off every day at different times making gauging the track surface very difficult. It is very hard to identify how much damage 1/10th scale RC cars can do to the natural terrain tracks of the UK until you realize approx. 500 cars ran on that surface daily for over 2 weeks straight. I remember everyone was very surprised at the huge dirt clods of track coming up, or being thrown out of the track surface. The damage to the car undersides was the worst I have ever seen in over 16 years of racing for a single race event. The RC10 chassis looked like they were run on off-road parking lot asphalt tracks with the amount of gauging the chassis had after their runs. The track surface was a white-ish gray color with some rocks in it, and appeared to look a little like rough cement. In fact, one turn got so bad before qualifying started that they did patch the huge potholes with cement I believe, making this one of the smoothest turns through-out the event.
I also remember the long infield straight-away jump was 70% bad, or would throw the cars end over end, unless you took it to the far right side. Problem with that is everyone is trying to use that right side and if you go too far over you risked hitting the track barriers which were large heavy rope that was staked to the ground and didn't budge. This rope would easily rip arms off the car when hit doing tremendous damage to many parts on the cars.

This was definitely a tough track to master and my first exposure to a surface like that. The host club was fantastic and they did a great job in keeping things running smoothly.

Too bad the track wasn't more like something we have here in the states or I might have done better. I never realized how little I knew about the UK tracks surfaces until I got there and my eyes were wide open.

This is only my POV from being there and going through the steps in trying to get my vehicles working well enough for me, which never happened. I got them good enough to just put on the track but they never felt comfortable to drive.
:D

sound's like a track every world's should be like(super technical) sort's out the men from the boy's! so looking back now, how do you think the winner's set-up there car's better ruffy? or were they just more used to this type of track? a great read thanks mate. :)

I don't think the setup was very different from a standard setup in the end, it was a matter of using the hydra-drive, to help smooth out the potholes formed by the dirt clods coming out and grinding down the wheel ribs a little to provide more cushion for the tire so that when your tire fell into a sharp edged hole the car might not feel it as much. The biggest thing being that you couldn't just put the power down, you had to tip-toe your car around the track looking for a smoother line that would not disturb your car as much as the normal line. At least that is how it appeared to many of us, even after reviewing the replays video taped.
You were right, it was a track that really made those with the most experience on different or hard to tackle surfaces rise to the top. Hats off to those that were able to conquer those type of conditions.

Were some of the AE drivers sharing tricks like the cut down rims? or was is more of an "out for ones self" kinda thing?

To be honest, everyone was just trying a little of everything since nothing seemed perfect.

Nice Blowup of this to view my 4WD Kyosho sponsored car (#10 here ) at the '93 Worlds in Basildon, UK!
I still have this body, but I sold the car to a very nice guy in Europe named Helmut.
