Scr8p's Worlds Re-re #2 / Modern Satoshi Maezumi Replica / 2017 Vonats Build
I had plans to build up another B1.5 for next year's race. But A-main Hobbies was blowing out Worlds kits last week, and with the coupon codes on top of it, I could not pass up buying one. It'll be so much cheaper for me in the long run. So I got the kit, a new 9601 top shaft (just in case the one in the kit is bad), a 6565 case and old style idler.
But I can't just build it stock. So, I decided to do a modern version of the '94 Japanese Nats winning Worlds car driven by Satoshi Maezumi.
I'm gonna try to get it fairly close. I'll be sending it out for blue ano, cut the tub sides a bit, some reshaping of the tub at the back and the corners of the nose plate. The motor plate gets a bit of milling as well. But, i'll be using the kit CVA's, V2 shocks, bellcranks, etc. The original has both versions of RCPS turnbuckles on it, so I may ask Lunsford if they could make me a Punisher/Retro turnbuckle kit. I'll also pick up a Proline Mirage SS body, and I also need to pick up some white Kydex to make one of those Yokomo/RC10 bumpers.
First on the agenda was to grid out the motor plate quick to give Joe an idea of what I'm looking for.
I also altered the bulkhead to match the old Worlds style, including the camber hole.
So that's where it at for now.

Hi Scr8p,
What is the color of the #6565 cases like now?
The ones I bought quite a while ago, are more brown that a cream color.

I wouldn't consider them to be much better. The bellcranks are white now though. Unlike the ones in my first kit that were as green as the ball cups.

I find the new 6565 cases quite sloppy and almost prefer the 6564 case now, not to mention the terrible color.

Remember to put tire balancing weights to same places were Satoshi had them .
Nice project again!

EDIT:
One, possible two, more pic(s) from Maezumi's car:

Do you mean the side to side play of the internals?RC10th wrote:I find the new 6565 cases quite sloppy and almost prefer the 6564 case now, not to mention the terrible color.
I'm gonna try to build it with the kit case and idler and see what happens. If it's good, I'll go with it. But I wanted to make sure I had the other stuff here. I don't care much for the color either, but with the amount of wires that go on brushless motors these days you can barely see the case anyway. I actually think the color on the new 30* castor blocks is much worse.
I still have a roll of it.Jirka wrote:Remember to put tire balancing weights to same places were Satoshi had them .
I'm up in the air with what I want to do about wheels. He used white wheels with yellow wheel dots. If the yoke and reedy wheels dots weren't so expensive that's what I would do. I may just get a sheet of yellow vinyl and make them myself. I plan on running the standard rc10 axles with widebody b3 wheels since i have a stack of them, and I'm going to run the 2.2 Traxxas 7171 hex wheels in the rear. They're white, but have a nice flat face to put the wheel dots on and I won't have to worry about them flying off. They also slightly wider than the rere kit wheels so the tires don't balloon as much.

But it would be much easier to just run yellow wheels.

Re: Scr8p's Worlds Re-re #2 / 2017 Vonats Build
Not so much the side to side play, that I can deal with. The issue I had was the bearings didn't press into the case with any effort, they just sorta fell in the holes. The tolerances on the re-re outdrives and bearings leaves a lot to be desired as well but that's another story. The whole internal gear mesh on the 6565 felt a bit average, a bit mushy like it was about to strip an idler. I changed back to the 6564 case and it felt much more solid and tighter (not binding sort of tight).scr8p wrote:Do you mean the side to side play of the internals?RC10th wrote:I find the new 6565 cases quite sloppy and almost prefer the 6564 case now, not to mention the terrible color.

This was during my testing with a 6.5t. For a bash around car the 6565 is fine, but for a race car the 6564 is the go.

Wife: Well that's smart.

What is funny is the new bell cranks seem to be green, mine were white from the first batch, but I have seen new rere ball cups in white now. Anthony got a set just the other day!scr8p wrote:I wouldn't consider them to be much better. The bellcranks are white now though. Unlike the ones in my first kit that were as green as the ball cups.

I don't know...... this is the 3rd kit I've opened over 2+ years and only the first one had green bellcranks. They all have green ball cups though.slotcarrod wrote:What is funny is the new bell cranks seem to be green, mine were white from the first batch, but I have seen new rere ball cups in white now. Got a little more work done to it tonight. Rounded the corners on the nose plate and rear chassis kick-up, cut the sides down a little bit, and shortened the nose brace tubes.
