Scr8p's Worlds Rere #5 / Modern Masami Replica - '93 Worlds

Post by scr8p »

This one will take a little while since I'm lacking quite a lot of parts. Starting off with a bunch of parts I have left from all of these rere kits I've been throwing together.

So this one is going to be a modernized replica of Masami's car that he ran at the '93 worlds. It's actually the same car he used to win at the '93 JMRCA race, but with white front arms instead of black, the trans had a gold motor plate instead of black, and the wing was white instead of orange. Now, I do have a new pair of white front arms I could use to build the JMRCA car....... and that was my plan (that's why i have the gold motor plate). But, this car will eventually be used at a Vonats race and I'm not running new white widetrack arms.

So, I think I will just go the '93 Worlds route and be done with it. I like the orange wing better, and it will have cool wheel dots.

And here is my starting pile of parts. This is a slightly older pic. I do have a black motor plate now, and I got a set of the Lunsford turnbuckles already. A couple other bits and pieces are on the way. But the big ticket items will be shocks and trans parts (if they ever become available again).

Basically all of the diff components (outdrives, rings, etc.), top shaft, slipper and so on. I have extras of both case versions.

Got the nose tubes shortened for this, and got the tub mods done. I stole the motor plate from the '94 build so i could finish it up, so i gotta do another for that one. Now...... on to the nose plate.

In my hand, I have a set of outdrives and diff rings I could part with.

Paypal is empty. But, I'll let you know when it isn't.

Got the nose finished up.

Then I figured.... since I'm kinda held up on the '94 build, I robbed more parts off of it to move this one along.

As usual - brilliant build

How did you find out about the intricate chassis detail at the motor plate?

You can sort of see it in the above pic. But, you can really see it in this pic from the JMRCA win.

A little tidbit on the rear there.......

When I was building my '93 Kinwald rere, Brad Reelfs had asked if I was going to bend the rear of the chassis up. He explained that there was a section of the track where drivers kept tail tapping on landing and upsetting the cars. So he thinks it was Roger Curtis that went around and bent the rear section of the tubs up on everyone's cars behind the rear arm mounts to gain more clearance. Now on Kinwalds car, he left the chassis alone and just drilled a new hole higher up in the motor plate. Masami drilled a new hole lower in the tub and removed material.

Kinwald's....

I would say there's a good chance the rear chassis plate on the b2 was bent upwards at the back because of a jump at the '93 Worlds.

Random Question

Does anyone have a milled out motor plate like the Kinwald one - that they would be prepared to part with? I have a JConcepts one but would love to get a retro looking one.

Re the different chassis hole position - did you work that out from the photos or had it been mentioned/detailed on an interview?
