Store is currently down.(back up)

Post by mytimac »

Our web host decided to migrate us to a new server this weekend. THey didn't tell us, just did it. It failed migration and broke a bunch of stuff. Our folder for all web sites is actually empty on the new server. Fortunately they suck at their job and only sabulatech.com is down right now, which hosts the store. Sabulatech.com points to the new server. OLDRC.COM, Vintagelosi.com are still up and running because they messed up and left them pointing to the old server.

I should have moved from GoDaddy years ago. But if they don't get things restored correctly I will be moving to a new host.

I like network solutions but only because I rarely hear from them except when it’s tome to renew (about 4 months early lol)

Well, they got some things fixed. But now the database is toast. Their software crashes trying to restore from backup of my database. So the store is offline indefinitely.

Geez, Godaddy is terrible. They got the web site data moved last night correctly, finely, but the domains still point to old server. So I can't update the pages to say store is down because any changes I make are not seen by anybody.

It's very tough to find a good hosting company these days. The majority of these hosters are huge corporations that host far too many sites for them to care about anything. Take GoDaddy for example. They host something like over 50 million websites alone! Even DreamHost that RC10Talk uses hosts a couple million. Then you have to be careful with smaller hosters as a lot of the time they're really just resellers for the large corporations. So you're pretty much screwed either way. The only advice I can give is to know how to make backups of your entire site, and then how to restore it from scratch. That's way easier said than done though as it's not something you can practice doing, and don't know when you'll ever need to.

Oh we had backup of database, problem is their software choked trying to restore. Probably same reason the migration earlier failed for the same database.

Well apparently everything is back up again. I had one more call to fix some other issues and this guy was certain they could fix the database issue as well and submitted a ticket. I didn't even realize it was fixed until I got an email about a new order. I was amazed! SO they must have found a tool that worked in moving the database over from old server.

Still going to look for a new hosting company now, so upset they moved servers and never told me it was going to happen.

Wow, your NOS stock and low prices are amazing!

I should have visited your store prior to buying on ebay.

Yeah, I get that a lot. Most people go straight to eBay and never do a search on Google, Yahoo, or Bing. Mistake, not just for my store, but other stores as well. It is how I made big deals in the past, buying out whole stores.
